2007 Mercury Milan AWD V6 Test Drive
If you are looking to purchase an entry-level, mid-size sedan, get ready to choose from the largest segment of the industry with the greatest number models.
Often overlooked, Mercury, the dress-up division of Ford Motor Company gets little attention from the press and sadly, not much advertising on TV or the newspapers, but the all-new Milan is worth your time to check out for a test drive. It is thoroughly modern in every respect, is very versatile for the growing and active family with fold-flat rear seats/front passenger seatback, and is easy and fun to drive.
I recently tested the Milan all-wheel-drive with the V6 engine and came away very impressed and disappointed that more isn’t known about this very reasonably priced sedan. I wasn’t the only as the all-new 2007 Mercury Milan won J.D. Power’s 2007 Award as the sedan with the highest rating for initial quality.
Milan ‘s is designed with Mercury’s metropolitan identity in mind. Its sleek exterior styling features standard satin aluminum grille, LED taillamps, dual chrome exhaust tips, and exterior accents. The trademark Mercury waterfall grille is prominent and satin aluminum is also found on the lower front fascia trim and Mercury badges that draws attention to its clean design.Milan also possesses a long wheelbase and dynamic stance, highlighted by the bright chrome belt line. Clean chiseled body sides flow upward from unique aluminum wheels, together establishing a strong visual profile. Form follows function and Milan is not just a pretty face. The elegant exterior design was created specifically to provide function as well as form. Milan offers consumers a sedan that has the flexibility to accommodate all of their needs. These include Mercury Sync-an industry-exclusive, voice-activated, hands-free, in-car communications and entertainment system. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, the system fully integrates mobile phones and media players into the vehicle using Bluetooth technology and USB connectivity. A newly available ambient lighting system offers the option of illuminating the front and rear footwells and front cupholders with any one of seven colors. The driver or front passenger can choose from red, orange, blue, indigo, violet, green and yellow. Reverse Sensing System is added to Milan ‘s options lit for 2008.
The rear bench seat features a pull-down center armrest with dual cupholders. The instrument cluster is easy to see and understand and all buttons, switches and dials are easy to reach and operate. The leather wrapped steering wheel is both tilting and telescoping for the perfect fit during spirited driving and when driving long distances.
Milan was one of Consumer Guide’s recommended buys in the mid-size category for 2007, based in no small part on the strength of its driving performance. It presents a refined driving experience with available first-in-class all-wheel-drive technology for more responsive handling and extra traction when driving over slick road surfaces.
Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) standards. For a power boost, you can option for the 221hp 3.0 liter DOHC V6 which is mated to a 6-speed automatic for smooth shifts and excellent fuel economy.
I’ve chosen the all-new Mercury Milan as my ‘sleeper’ sedan this year because it fulfills the most of what I would like a mid-size, mid-priced family sedan to be. The base price for the Milan V6 Premier AWD model is just $25,145.00 and $28,745.00 for the loaded model that I tested. ALL NEW 2007 MERCURY MILAN AWD V6
