New SUV’s rate higher in Rollover Ratings

More and more SUV’s on the market are getting better scores for the rollover ratings tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA). About 78 models of new SUV’s earned a four-star rating, compared to just 48 of the 103 tested from the 2006 model year. This increase in safety is mostly linked to the addition of stability control standard in most new models of SUV’s. The stability control system automatically applies brakes to each wheel when the car loses control while skidding or in other avoidance maneuvers. Rollover accidents account for just 3% of all accidents but result in 33% of all traffic fatalities. The government has mandated that stability control be standard on all vehicles by 2012.

Apple in bed with VW to produce an iCar?

Volkswagen has plans to produce new vehicles with iPhone/iPod friendly integration devices. These devices would sync up with an iPhone providing a seamless connection with your iPhone device with the car. A system such as this would allow the car to “talk” to your iPhone such as some built in Bluetooth systems allow only this will be on a higher integration scale with more built-in iPhone-like vehicle functions and connectivity.

Honda is to get ready a race-car version of the S2000

Yes, the Honda S2000 is still around and it is still selling. Honda plans to produce some-what of a race car version of the Honda S2000 called the Honda S2000 CR due to go on sale this fall. We do not know much about it yet but Honda says it will be “agressively tuned” and from a name like Honda look for a high-revving high HP output engine.
