It’s no secret that all the GM lines have been struggling. All US automakers are being forced to deal with a cataclysmic shift in consumer buying trends. All across the US, soccer moms are abandoning their SUVs in favor of smaller, lighter cars that get better fuel economy.
In answer to this dominant trend, numerous new cars are coming about. The recent exposure of the Chevy Cruze (once thought to be the replacement for to Cobalt) has sparked new interest and new life in the ailing automaker. The Chevy Cruze is just one of the new cars set to take the stage in the near future. However, Europe will get a taste of the Cruze before the US. The Cruze will debut in 2009 in Europe, while the US release comes in 2010.

The Not-So-Slow Death of the SUV
Not too long ago, the vehicle of choice for many Americans was the SUV. However, soaring gas prices have resulted in a tremendous shift in consumer purchasing. The SUV is no longer the king of America’s roads. Families, couples and even single people are now opting for smaller, lighter vehicles that don’t guzzle gas.
Have high gas prices sounded the death knell for the SUV? Take a look at the average car dealership today. While you will still find SUVs for sale, chances are they are outnumbered by crossover vehicles, slimmer sedans, sport coupes and, of course, hybrid vehicles. Even hybrid SUVs haven’t been able to make a dent in the new pattern of consumer spending.

Car clubs have been around as long as there have been cars to drive. In the day of the original VW Beetle, the modern interpretation of a car meet came to be. What is a car meet, you ask? Simply put, these are gatherings of auto enthusiasts. They come together once per month, or so, to share stories, a cup of coffee or three, as well as to enjoy the sight and sound of automobiles.
Older car clubs fell into two categories. There were clubs for the same type of car, such as VW clubs, Ford Mustang clubs, Dodge clubs and more. There was conceivably a car club for every type and brand of car that ever rolled off the production line. However, the new generation of car clubs is not like that. They are a different breed, entirely.
BMW ConnectedDrive Demo – A Nice Combo of iDrive and the Internet!

I found a video demonstration of BMW’s newest iDrive aka ConnectedDrive system which incorporates the internet with the accessed interface. Very neat but still looks a bit cumbersome. Still to this day, I don’t know anyone who can just jump into a fully loaded BMW with iDrive, or let alone the ConnectedDrive system, and just take off driving while having the ability to fully utilize 50% of the features on the car. Just give me a German engineered BMW drivetrain, three pedals, steering wheel, and shifter and I am fine.
Who will be the first one to get into an accident while searching Google for the nearest Startbucks?
What do you think about this “ConnectedDrive”???
