So, we have another very fast Cadillac to introduce. One with 575hp and 4 doors.

No this is not the new CTS-V that we recently confirmed being the fasted Cadillac yet. This Cadillac is a JET! A Jet you ask, yes a Jet, just listen to the video below. The video below is where Cadillac makes a complete mockery out of the Benz C63 commercial attempting to answer the question of how much HP is fast or how much HP will take your breath away. I think 575hp just might do it.

Enjoy!

2009 Cadillac CTS-V: Loads and loads of power!

Remember when we posted an article about how manufacturers and car fanatics are utilizing the Nurburgring as a new meter stick for measuring the performance of new vehicles? Well, no different with Cadillac when it comes to their fastest Cadillac yet, the new Cadillac CTS-V. This new CTS-V is new using components from the new Corvette ZR1 making a mighty 556hp and 551 ft. lbs. of torque all in a package that can actually handle that type of power, not to mention 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Garage 419 did an excellent video with a drive and interview with Nurburgring record holder, John Heinricy. Hold on to your butts, this is going to be one serious drive!

Enjoy the video!

The 2010 CTS Sport Wagon is changing the way Americans think about the old station wagon. From the front it looks no different than the normal CTS, but when you look at the rear you will see its differences like its 26 LED powered tail lights that extend almost the entire rear end. Every line, every crevice, every nuance has a purpose. It screams speed. It yells high class. And it’s got good fuel economy to boot. And for those planning on packing a lot of stuff into it, it has a whole lot of usable space.

Today GM released the announcement to its employees and to the public that they have plans to majorly cut production including 4 truck plants. The slow in the economy and high gas prices is obviously a major factor in the decision that GM is making in the upcoming months. Surprisingly Rick Wagoner, GM’s CEO, announced possible closing of plants that make many GM SUV’s and trucks with a mention of a possible removal or sale of Hummer which may remove this brand from the market all-together.

This may come as a surprise when you listen to Rick Wagoner mention the closing of plants that produce the Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon. We all know that is a big monster in the SUV market but we also know the SUV market is diminishing very fast mainly due to the fact that SUV’s consume A LOT of gas and the economy just cannot support the high price of such vehicles.

CNN.com posted the news this morning and reads:

GM: Trucks out, cars in

Automaker plans to shut 4 pickup and SUV plants, build more fuel-efficient vehicles, and may dump the Hummer brand.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — General Motors announced plans Tuesday to shut four truck and SUV plants that employ thousands of workers. It also said high gas prices are here to stay – and, with them, consumers’ growing preference for more fuel-efficient vehicles.

At a news conference in Wilmington, Del., GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner announced plans to roll out more fuel-efficient vehicles, including approval to start the production process on a vehicle that can run gas-free for trips up to 40 miles.

But the plant-closing plans are a stunning admission from the nation’s largest automaker that its long dependence on large SUVs and pickups is no longer a viable strategy for a company struggling to end losses from its North American operations.

The plants to be closed include two U.S. facilities: The Moraine, Ohio plant that builds midsize SUVs, such as the Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy; and the Janesville, Wisc., assembly line that builds large SUVs such as the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon.

In addition, it plans to close a pickup plant in Oshawa, Canada, and a truck plant in Toluca, Mexico.
The Mexican plant that builds medium-duty trucks sold to businesses rather than consumers will close later this year. The other plants will close in 2009 and 2010, with sooner closings possible if sales do not improve. Each U.S. plant has about 2,500 employees.

iReport.com: Still driving a gas guzzler?

The company said it believes that high oil and gasoline prices will be the norm, and that prices are likely to go higher due to strong global demand for oil.

“These higher gasoline prices are changing consumer behavior and rapidly,” said Wagoner. “We don’t think this is a temporary spike or shift. We think it is permanent.”
Goodbye Hummer Wagoner also said GM is looking at possibly selling its Hummer unit as part of a strategic review of the SUV brand based on military vehicles. The Hummer H3 mid-size SUV gets about 13 to 14 miles per gallon in city driving in the most recent EPA ratings. The H1 and H2 are larger vehicles on which EPA does not give mileage estimates.

The brand has become the symbol to many members of the public of a gas-guzzling large U.S. vehicle.
Hello Volt He also announced that GM has approved production of the Chevrolet Volt, a so-called plug-in hybrid vehicle that can run about 40 miles without any use of gasoline. The Volt will be built in GM’s Hamtramck, Mich., plant and is due in showrooms by the end of 2010.

Read more at cnn.com

Hummer H2 for sale

The new 3.6 liter V6 with VVT and Direct Injection gives you excellent power and the driving dynamics more closely matches the competition from M-B, BMW, Audi and Lexus. Built in America , the CTS will save the consumer many thousands of dollars over the comparable import brands. GM is turning a corner now by building excellent automobiles with the Cadillac luxury brand leading the resurgence.

One look, one drive and you’ll appreciate what the designers and engineers at Cadillac have accomplished. I tested the CTS Performance Sedan and came away very impressed with the new interior refinements, fun and exciting driving experience, all at a low $32,245.00 base price. Even better, Motor Trend magazine has just named the all-new Cadillac CTS ‘2008 Car of the Year’Taking a closer look up front is the Cadillac Sixteen concept car’s grille that is more vertical, dual-textured and dramatic. It is more sophisticated, faceted, with elegant chrome trim, and with a large center-positioned wreath and crest, adds to the new three-dimensional look. It appears more ‘concept car’ and less ‘traditional luxury car’.

The car’s more athletic form is characterized by the sculpted fenders that emphasize the car’s wider track and enhanced chassis dynamics. The front fenders feature side air extractors that recall a styling element from Cadillac’s past that was revised on the Sixteen concept and the new Escalade. The stacked lamp cluster features halogen lamps standard, with low-energy LEDs and crisp, high-intensity discharge xenon lamps that swivel in concert with vehicle steering, optional. The lower spliter helps with downforce enabling the CTS to cut deeper into curving roads and to maintain a higher cruising speed.

From the side, the CTS has a ‘faster’ and nearly coupe-like profile, owing to both its increased performance potential and more evolved styling theme. Lower side extensions give the new CTS a lower stance that increased handling chrome air extractors located on the top of each fender give it a sportier look. A ‘double’ sunroof borrowed from the Cadillac’s SRX crossover, enables both front and rear seat passengers a sky view.

The uniquely styled rear fascia features a sculpted rear bumper with chrome strip affixed to the top of it, large, vertical rear LED lamps, a chrome strip above the license plate surround, a rear diffuser the help with channeling the air out the back and two, chrome, 3in. round, exhaust tips nicely spread apart. The look is fresh and dynamic as the CTS looks like it is in motion when parked.

Coupled with a new overall shape, the most evolutionary dimension of the all-new CTS comes in the form of a 2in. wider track as a result of the addition of the new, optional all-wheel-drive configuration. The wider stance gives the new CTS a more planted, capable and well-grounded appearance that’s exemplified by much tighter tire-to-fender relationships.

The wider stance also enable more tumblehome-the vehicle sides are sculpted inward-delivering an appearance of rear-wheel-drive performance with a lower roof line, without compromising headroom or a roomy interior. Additionally, a wider, tapering sail panel, lower, more sculpted hood, smoother wheel housing lips and a tighter wheel-to-body relationship help communicate the CTS’ agility as well as its sophistication and substance.

Completing the look are standard seven spoke, 17X8in. wheels or optional nine-spoke 18X8.5in. wheels, either painted or machined. These wheels are wrapped with high-performance, all-season radial tires.

Bolstering an already stiff and torsional, unitized welded steel frame, Cadillac engineers aimed for the quietness and appearance of the finest prestige sedans by lavishing attention on sights and sounds of the body construction. An innovative laser brazing technique affixes the roof panel more crisply. The windshield glass is free from visible rubber seals and joints. The hood borrows techniques from door panels to improve sealing and noise control. The doors themselves are triple-sealed. Sound levels were analyzed inside the cabin not just for reduced quantity, but also increased quality.

The new CTS features two engine options each mated to either a 6-speed Aisin 6-speed manual features a new short-throw shifter for improved precision. The Hydra-Matic 6L50 6-speed automatic is taken from the 469hp Cadillac STS-V and is designed to decrease engine rpm and enhance overall fuel economy. On vehicles equipped with the new AWD system, the 6L50 will be equipped with a new active transfer case that automatically transfers torque from the rear to the front of the CTS for optimal traction, safety and performance. A limited-slip differential also is optional.

The 3.6 liter, all-aluminum, DOHC engine with VVT is standard and produces 263hp and 253lb.ft. of torque. This is the engine in my test CTS and it pulled strong all the up to redline. I had no problem getting ahead of the surrounding traffic at launch, when merging onto the LA freeway system or when I had to pass slower moving vehicles on the freeway. It was fun and exciting as the engine reacted quickly to all of my inputs.

For those craving more power and torque, the optional, 3.6 liter, all-aluminum, DOHC engine with VVT and Direct-Injection makes a generous 304hp and 277lb.ft. of torque.

With VVT the torque band is flat and you have 90% of torque at low rpm’s with either engine, but with the new Direct Injection fuel is delivered directly to the combustion chamber to create a more complete burn of the air/fuel mixture. Less fuel is required to produce the equivalent hp, especially at normal cruising speeds, of a conventional port-injection combustion system

Driving dynamics is increased with a greatly revised chassis featuring a 2in. wider track and the application of AWD. Riding fun and pleasure are up to the consumer as the CTS features three distinct suspension tuning levels that were engineered and tested along the world-famous Nurburgring race track. The use of aluminum in the upper and lower front control arms and knuckles helps reduce mass and contributes to higher limits in handling and dynamic wheel control. Front suspensions for the rear-drive model and the AWD version, while similar, have been designed to best meet the chassis dynamics of the individual’s versions.

The engine cradle has six attachment points, two more than typically used on a performance sedan, to better heavier loads and engine vibration. New for CTS is a tower-to-tower brace that adds cross-car stiffness and enhances the overall steering feel.

This is an innovation from the high-performance CTS-V model that has been modified and adapted for use in the new CTS.

The multi-link rear has a fully isolated subframe, is an uncompromising design with excellent suspension kinematics that deliver a superior ride with excellent handling. The rear suspension design is shared in both the rear-wheel and AWD models, and has been extensively revised to accommodate the wide rear track. With either of the three suspension setups that you choose, you’ll appreciate the response at speed and the compliant ride when traveling over rough road surfaces. While the FE1 tune has no limited-slip differential because of the softer suspension tune for a luxury type of ride, the FE2 and FE3 comes with a limited-slip differential and features higher rate coil springs, monotube shocks and thicker hollow stabilizer bars front and rear.

The braking and steering systems for CTS are all-new, with extensive changes to increase responsiveness, premium ‘feel’ and performance in spirited driving situations.

It is up to you how you want to drive or have the new CTS respond to your inputs. When you order the 304hp Direct Injection 3.6 liter VVT V6 CTS you get the FE3, 3.42 final drive ratio, bigger brakes and wider, more high-performing Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires wrapping 18X8.5in. wheels.

Keeping you out of trouble is the finely tuned advanced chassis technology in the form of Cadillac’s StabiliTrak electronic chassis control system that works together with the full-function traction control, hydraulic brake assist, ABS and the engine drag control systems.

With either engine or suspension tune, you will enjoy the ride that the new CTS offers.

There is no noise, vibration or harshness to disappoint a real luxury and performance ride.

You’ll enjoy acceleration with the base CTS of 0-60mph in just 5.9sec., and an even faster 5.4sec. with the more powerful engine and more responsive FE3 suspension tune riding on meatier tires. Driving response and dynamics with either the FE1, FE2 or FE2 suspension tunes are as good as any of the other entry-level luxury sedans.

Cadillac doesn’t disappoint on the inside as they have paid attention to workmanship, detail and materials that is on par with the competition.

Grab the large pull-out door handle, open the door and look at what Cadillac now offers. You first notice the hand-cut and sewn soft leather trim on the dashboard shelf and door trim, French stitching on the optional leather trimmed seats; metallic finishes, chrome accents and available Sapele Pommele wood trim surround the cabin. The instrument panel sweeps forward and away from passengers for more real and perceived space. The cluster features a chrome trimmed 160mph speedometer, 8,000rpm tachometer, with fuel, oil pressure and fuel gauges. The center stack flows seamlessly into the console, creating a cockpit-like space. The unique interior lighting features several LED elements that are recessed in strategic locations for indirect, soft lighting. Dramatically different from the original CTS, the new interior is decidedly more upscale, with added ornamentation, luxury and attention to detail.

Standard equipment not mentioned above includes power windows/door locks, tires pressure monitor, leather wrapped/tilting/telescoping steering wheel with auxiliary controls, dual-zone climate control, 8-way power adjustable driver-bucket seat, remote keyless entry, power heated outside mirrors, inside rearview with auto dimming, variable-speed wipers/washers, cruise-control, driver-information center, rear seat pass-thru to trunk, grab handles above each rear door, pull-down rear center console with storage and dual cupholders, thick-cut pile carpeting with floor mats, AM-FM stereo, CD, MP3 format, Bose 8-speaker system and 3-month XM Satellite radio subscription. Options not mentioned above include heated and ventilated seats, Ultra-View double sunroof, fog lamps, advanced navigation system featuring real-time traffic and weather data, expanded voice-prompts and 3-D imaging of major landmarks, Bose 5.1 cabin surround sound 10-speaker system, 40GB hard drive, USB port for iPod integration and battery charging, remote start, and adaptive forward HID lighting with LED light pipes.

The all-new CTS is one of the most technologically advanced luxury sedans as far as safety is concerned. The structure features high-strength steel, front/rear crumple zones, steel beams in each door, front and side airbags up front with head curtain side airbags in the front and rear, front safety belt pretensioners, daytime running lamps, auto lamps, power door locks that are programmable, child security rear door locks, 1-year ONSTAR directions with turn-by-turn navigation and all of ONSTAR’s emergency systems.

Cadillac has got it going now. The all-new 2008 CTS matches up perfectly with the import competition by not only offering a sedan that is fun and exciting to drive, but also boasts an interior that is beautifully designed and executed to a the highest degree.

Better yet, the CTS model that I tested was priced at just $$36,995.00 including options like 10-way power/heated leather seats with memory, 6-speed automatic transmission, Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound with 40GB hard drive, and heated windshield wiper fluid. Drive the new CTS and you will agree that Cadillac is once again on the same stage as the best performance luxury sedans.

The Cadillac Provoq Hydrogen – Battery powered Vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show – Las Vegas, NV

Hydrogen fuel cell powered Cadillac gets about 300 miles to one tank of hydrogen. It is sort of a hybrid where it primarily runs on hydrogen but uses battery power for storing electricity for the duration of a long trip. The Cadillac Provoq should go up to 100 MPH and achieve a 0-60 tile of 8.5 seconds. Speculation is that this Caddy is based off of the Chevy Volt, an electric car with batteries changed by an ethanol or gas powered motor.

Although flying cars aren’t yet a reality, automakers are continually developing new technologies to make our cars safer and more futuristic. Here are some of our favorite automotive features from 2007 that edge us ever-closer to a car George Jetson would be proud of. Features from a number of cars made our list, but the 2008 Infiniti EX35 received the most mentions, including the top spot with our favorite new feature, Lane Departure Prevention.

Best New Feature: Lane Departure Prevention

Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35

Infiniti’s Lane Departure Prevention builds on conventional lane-departure warning systems, which detect lane markings and sound a chime if you drift astray. LDP goes one step further by gently applying the brakes to certain wheels to nudge you back on course. Sound too intrusive? We tried it out in the EX35 and it keeps a remarkably low profile. Hit the turn signal or steer the wheel slightly, and the system deactivates. On straight roads, it intervenes with just a hint of deceleration, and the dashboard chime alerts you of its actions. For its effectiveness and low profile, LDP is the winner.

Scratch Shield Paint

Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35

The crusade for city-friendly transportation began years ago with plastic bumpers and dent-resistant doors. It reaches new heights with Infiniti’s Scratch Shield paint. On the EX35, Scratch Shield combines a highly elastic resin with the clearcoat finish. The resulting surface is said to maintain a glossy appearance over the years, and it can actually undo minor damage in the course of a few days. While Scratch Shield won’t repair dents or gashes, Infiniti says it can restore things like fingernail scratches under the door handles. We haven’t had a chance to see it in action, but we’re intrigued by the prospects.

Around View Monitor

Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35

Let’s be clear on one thing: Infiniti’s Around View Monitor ain’t pretty. With cameras mounted on each side of the car, its fish-eye, top-down view distorts any three-dimensional object nearby. But is it effective? You bet. With a 360-degree view of exactly what’s around your car, it reduces getting into narrow parking spots and crowded alleys to a science. Even the best front-and-rear sonar systems can’t replicate this. You have to see it — and park it — to believe it.

Full-Size Hybrid SUVs/Trucks

Where you can find it: Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chrysler Aspen, Dodge Durango, GMC Yukon

To date, hybrid technology has graced only compact and midsize SUVs. Sharing a new 2-Mode Hybrid system, several GM and Chrysler Group full-size SUV models and a pickup truck deliver significant mileage gains — if early estimates prove accurate. Some environmentalists cry heresy over this development, but we can’t see how fuel economy improvement in the vehicles that need it most could be a bad thing. The trucks give up almost none of their hauling and towing capabilities, remaining useful to the people who really need them and would buy full-size anyway, hybrid or not.

Integrated Booster Seats

Where you can find it: Volvo V70, Volvo XC70

This is one of those simple features that make so much sense you wonder why they’re not present on more cars. In the new V70, the cushions of the outboard rear seats can easily be raised to one of two levels to better accommodate children, which means no more fumbling around with an aftermarket booster seat. What’s more, Volvo says the side curtain airbags in the V70 extend lower, which in conjunction with the raised seating position gives a child’s head greater protection in a side-impact collision.

Heartbeat Sensor

Where you can find it: Volvo S80

We’re dubious about the usefulness of a heartbeat sensor, but we were won over by the fact that such a futuristic feature is available in today’s cars. The heartbeat sensor, which Volvo says can help you determine if someone is lying in wait inside your car, is part of the S80 sedan’s Personal Car Communicator fob that can also do other things, like tell you if your car is locked or unlocked up to about 300 feet away.

Easy Third-Row Access

Where you can find it: Hyundai Veracruz

Getting into the third row in SUVs has gotten progressively easier in recent years, but the Veracruz has a three-step system that outshines the competition. Each part individually doesn’t seem like much, but put all together it’s a wonder no one else has thought of it. First, there’s a one-hand release latch that moves the second-row seat up, sliding it forward on rails. Secondly, there’s a cubbyhole tucked inside the Veracruz wall, right where little ones will need it to help themselves into the car. Finally, the second-row seats come with a handle that lets third-row occupants pull the seats back toward them, helping kids trying to get into the second row. Simple ideas, but great implementation.

Sirius Satellite TV

Where you can find it: Chrysler minivans

Any parent can tell you that one of the big drags about taking kids on long trips is all the stuff you’ve got to carry with you. Chrysler’s new Sirius Satellite TV makes this a bit easier by removing your DVD collection from the list. Your kids can watch one of three channels (the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network) on one or both of the rear swing-down screens; if it’s just one, the other can show a DVD or video game. Given these three channels offer programming that can satisfy kids from infancy through their teen years, this is a big step forward.

Sync Hands-Free System

Where you can find it: Various Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models

Ford has addressed driver distraction with a voice activation system that takes the fumbling out of using cell phones and digital music players. Sync allows drivers to control Bluetooth phones and MP3 players and storage devices that have a USB input using simple voice commands — it even reads text messages from compatible phones. Sync is standard on most uplevel trims in a dozen Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models; it’s a $395 option on base trim levels. That’s a lot of tech for not a lot of dough.

Volvo Blind Spot Information System

Where you can find it: C30, S40, S80, V50, V70, XC70, XC90

Volvo prides itself on safety innovations, and this is the latest. The new S80, V70 and XC70 have an optional blind spot information system that alerts drivers to cars that are hard to spot using mirrors. Two cameras are attached to the side mirrors, and a pale orange light illuminates whenever changing lanes would lead to hitting someone in the dreaded blind spot. A single button turns the system on and off if you’re in heavy traffic, but the faded hue of the lights doesn’t distract from driving. It’s a clever heads-up for the safety conscious.
