After 35 years the Dodge Challenger two-door performance coupe is back and better than ever. The original Challenger premiered in 1970 and ran through model year 1974. It was the last of the Big Three to offer a pony car to the consumer, and to compete against the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro in TransAm racing.

The all-new, five-passenger Challenger captures the emotion of the original two-door, rear-wheel-drive Challenger, but with an updated twist. The exterior design combines Challenger’s heritage of bold, expressive, modern Dodge style, while the race-inspired interior is reminiscent of the original Challenger with all the modern amenities and technology that we expect today.

The all-new Challenger SRT8 offers exterior styling cues that are signature Dodge. Exterior proportions evoke a bold, instantly recognizable vehicle that has a wide, stable stance on the road. A full-width grille and fog lamps reminiscent of the original Challenger are married to the modern ‘Dodge’ attitude. The result is an aggressive face that is unmistakably a muscle car. The hood, with a raised center, carbon fiber-like stripes and functional dual scoops, stays true to the Challenger heritage, as does the A-line and beltline.

The new front end also incorporates numerous functional design features including a fascia that directs air around the front of the vehicle, a large black splitter that helps with downforce, and dual cutouts that directs air to the brakes, dual snorkel hood scoops that bring cooling air into the engine compartment.

From the side you see a lower and sleeker Challenger with a swept-back windshield pillar, arrowhead rear window appliqué, power remote/heated side mirrors similar to the original Challenger mirrors, pillar-less door glass, flush, pull-up door handles, lower rocker panels, and the ‘piece de resistance’ a flip-out chrome fuel filler door similar to the original Challenger.

A black rocker and valance on the rear amplify the Challenger SRT8’s classic aggressive look. The rear spoiler is not only reminiscent of the original Dodge Challenger T/A model, but is a functional part of the new car generating significant rear downforce. Cut through the lower bumper are dual rectangular exhaust tips that help to more efficiently exit the hot gases, and provide a loud growl when you put your foot down hard on the throttle.

The crease along the C-pillar and around the rear glass is exactly as seen on the Dodge Challenger concept car, while the full-width graphic for the tail lamp with reverse lamp in the center evokes the original Challenger.

I love this car and the way it grabs the attention of everyone passing by.

The race-inspired interior of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 also utilizes the original Dodge Challenger-and the more recent Challenger concept car-for inspiration, while offering consumers a wide array of modern amenities and interior finishes.

Interior highlights include a dark headliner giving it a sinister, more businesslike atmosphere, race-inspired leather seats with added side bolstering and an exclusive orange accent stripe, exclusive stitched accents on the seats and the leather-wrapped, tilt/telescoping, 4-spoke steering wheel, 4-easy to see gauges with tachometer and 180mph speedometer in the center, and an SRT-exclusive Reconfigurable Display with Performance Pages that provide drivers with instant feedback on 0-60mph time, 60-0mph braking distance, g-forces and ¼ time.

The trapezoidal theme of the door and gauge cluster, the dark headliner, and the slanted shifter console are all based directly on the original Challenger. The SRT8 badging, titanium weave instrument panel, center cluster bezel, chrome surround for the gated, leather wrapped stick shifter, and 13-speaker Kicker High Performance AM-FM-CD-MP3 audio system that features a 322-watt amplifier and 200-watt subwoofer, plus SIRIUS satellite radio, are all standard. Chrysler GPS navigation and MyGIG infotainment system are optional.

The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is the ultimate performance muscle coupe. The two-door, rear-wheel-drive coupe is based on the Dodge Charger sedan platform. Sporting a 116in. wheelbase, the Challenger is 4in. shorter than the Charger sedan.

You will truly enjoy the outstanding performance on the street or on the track.
With a low ride height, a brake-lock differential, SRT-tuned coil spring rates, shocks, sway bars, and a uniquely-tuned Electronic Stability Program, the 2008 Challenger SRT8 offers world-class ride and handling characteristics across a dynamic range.

“The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is the ultimate modern muscle car-built by gearheads for gearheads,” said Kipp Owen-Director, Street and Racing Technology Engineering.
“SRT understands what customers want in a performance car, and with the Challenger SRT8, we will exceed their expectations.”

Built on a unibody construction, the all-new Challenger SRT8 features a multi-link short and long arm (SLA) front suspension. The front suspension cradle combines hydroformed steel tube side rails with a stamped box section lateral member to provide the appropriate level of stiffness. The stiffness is tuned to avoid the transmission of noise, vibration and harshness from entering the passenger compartment. The multi-link SLA suspension also provided SRT engineers the opportunity to tune bushing compliances for reduction in road noise, while maintaining vehicle dynamic handling performance. This precision-designed front suspension features a high upper ‘A’ arm, lateral and diagonal lower links, coil springs over Bilstein monotube gas-charged shocks, and a solid stabilizer bar.

The five-link independent rear suspension offers a better ride by allowing for independent tuning of the ride and handling characteristics. Multiple links maintain independent control of camber and toe during suspension movement. Lower unsprung mass offers a better ride and the decoupling of left and right wheels over road imperfections maintains better tire contact with the ground and results in better ride comfort. Multiple bushings in the rear offer the flexibility to tune for ride and comfort. In addition, stabilizer bar attachments to the knuckles provide maximum response to vehicle lean. This precision-designed rear suspension features coil springs, link-type stabilizer bar, Bilstein monotube gas-charged shocks, and an isolated suspension cradle.

“The original Dodge Challenger was best known for its straight-line prowess at the drag strip, “said Owen. “The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not only lives up to that heritage, but was engineered to offer world-class ride and handling characteristics when on the street, at a drag strip, or at a road course.

The rack & pinion, with hydraulic power assist, steering system has a performance gear that gives better feel for the road, and seamlessly goes where you point it to go.
This all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger rides on huge, SRT-exclusive, fully-forged,
5-spoke, 20X9in. Alcoa aluminum wheels wrapped with 4-season, Goodyear 245/45R20in. Eagle RS-A tires. You can option for the 3-season, Goodyear 245/45R20in. front, and 255/45R20in. rear, F1 Supercar tires, for superior grip and traction.

At the heart of the all-new Challenger is the exclusive, 6.1 liter HEMI V8 engine that generates 425hp and 420lb.ft. of torque, and is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick. This proven and powerful HEMI V8 engine is a 90-degree V-type, with a deep-skirt cast-iron block with cross-bolted main bearing caps, aluminum alloy head with hemispherical combustion chambers. The valve system is a pushrod-operated overhead setup with 16-valves, conventional hydraulic lifters, all with roller followers.
The compression ratio is set at 10.3:1.

This high-output V8 is mated to a SRT-tuned electronically controlled 5-speed automatic with lock-up torque converter and AutoStick. Three sets of planetary gears provide the individual transmission ratios, while six friction clutches and two overrunning clutches select them. An aggressive first gear ratio provides outstanding launch performance. AutoStick gives you the ability to select a higher or lower gear while the transmission controller calibration prevents fuel shutoff during power shifts.

Fully adaptive electronic control of all shifting makes the powertrain feel responsive with harshness. Electronically controlled engine torque management provides smooth full-throttle launches, quick wide-open throttle up shifts and quick two-step, kick-down shifts that are smoother. Extensive use of an electronically modulated converter clutch improves fuel economy while maintaining smooth operation.

Benchmark braking, one of the pillars of SRT, is delivered via a specially designed system for the all-new Challenger SRT8 that will slow and stop the car quickly, safely and predictably. All four wheels are equipped with red, painted Brembo calipers that feature four-pistons each for even clamping performance. These aluminum housed calipers clamp on 14.2in. vented and grooved rotors up front, and 13.8in. vented and grooved rotors in the rear.

It’s clear that SRT engineers and designers have done there work well with the all-new Challenger. It is the real deal in modern American muscle cars with a true retro-modern look of a classic. Under the skin are the added pluses of today’s SRT engineering in the form of a potent 425hp HEMI V8, tuned, fully-independent suspension for a smooth ride with exciting handling capability, and world-class braking to keep quickly and safely slow you down. The only thing that I would add is a set of aluminum pedal pads over the two foot pedals to give it an even more, sporty look inside.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Journey is another segment-defining crossover from Dodge that delivers versatility, safety, child friendliness, loads of storage, cargo and seating flexibility, as well as innovative features and technologies, including all-weather driving capability. With a bold, sporty design, the all-new, fun-to-drive Journey continues the Dodge brand global expansion.

Dodge designers and engineers have answered the needs of the global passenger car market, as well as the needs of individual drivers, and delivered the all-new 2009 Dodge Journey is a global vehicle that meets life’s changing demands by offering a unique combination of versatility and flexibility in a sporty, sexy package. This all-new vehicle takes the practicality of a minivan, the capability of a sport utility vehicle and the overall efficiency of a passenger car and blends all the best attributes of each into an all-new ‘right-sized’ crossover.

The Journey is built on Dodge’s global D-segment platform and is designed to meet the needs of young singles, couples and families with small children to mature families who want the flexibility to do more in terms of seating people or storing gear. Clever, flexible seating and storage combinations include standard five-passenger seating with spacious cargo room and optional 5+2 seating for times when additional passengers are along for the journey. Spacious storage bins in the floor are hidden behind the front seats, and the front passenger seat bottom pulls out to reveal more storage. Combine that with a variety of fuel-efficient and powerful powertrain options that makes the Journey flexible, functional and fun-to-drive a short distance or longer.

Safety also is at the top of the list for consumers, and the Journey delivers with standard multi-stage front driver and passenger airbags, front-seat-mounted side airbags, three-row-side-curtain airbags, 3-point safety belts for all seating positions, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, electronic stability program, electronic roll mitigation, and optional back-up camera and all-wheel-drive. Three models are available the base SE, mid-line SXT, and the top-of-the-line, R/T, that I tested.

The Dodge Journey is unmistakably a Dodge front the signature Dodge crosshair chrome grille with the Dodge Ram’s head stamped on the center. Contemporary quad halogen headlamps and optional fog lamps provide excellent road lighting. Body-color fascias provide a monochromatic look that neatly frames the chrome crosshair grille and headlamps.

From the side you’ll first notice the big 19X7in. wheels and tires available for the RT. These wheels and tires set it apart from the rest of the mid-size crossover pack. Continuing on at the side are Journey’s horizontal aluminum hood, long daylight opening and low-gloss black appliqués on the B-and-C-pillars that give the appearance of a long greenhouse. Sculpted wheel arches emphasize Journey’s sporty, athletic appearance. Journey’s beltline is more angled in front, easier for rear-seat passengers to see out the windows. An optional high-contrast black roof rack with buffed stainless steel roof rails adds capability.

From the rear, Journey features a single-piece, lightweight liftgate that includes an integrated spoiler that improves aerodynamics. An LED center high mounted stop lamp is mounted in the liftgate header above the glass. Four-piece jeweled red tail lamps span the width of both liftgate and the body and feature unique curves that give the Journey added style and sportiness. Cut into the lower bumper are chrome-tipped dual exhausts, which are standard on the RT.

A key target for the design team was delivering a practical, flexible interior, with seating and innovative storage features typically only found in a minivan. The Journey’s two-box exterior design means more room for seating people and storing gear. Journey offers a choice of two seating configurations to balance consumers needs for passenger seating and cargo room. Five passenger seating is standard, while 5+2 passenger seating is optional on the SXT and RT models. Journey’s optional third-row gives passengers 2in. more head room than the competition.

Storing things under the front seat takes on an entirely new meaning, thanks to Journey’s optional Flip ‘N Stow in-seat storage. The Journey’s front passenger seat cushion flips forward to reveal a large, 10.75X8.75in. bin under the cushion. It is large enough to store a purse, umbrella, planner, or headphones, with the seat down. The cushion is hinged, and when flipped forward, provides access to the storage bin.

Journey’s rear doors open 90-degrees making it easier to get and out of the second row and gain access to the available third row. In the second row the Journey features theater seating, which gives passengers in the second and third row the ability to see outside the vehicle. It is about 1.6in. higher than the first row, and the optional third row is 0.6in. higher than the second row.

Located in the floor behind the front-row seats are two standard in-floor storage bins that are designed to hold 12-12oz. cans plus ice or other items conveniently out of sight. For added convenience, the bins feature latching lids and removable, washable liners, so they are a snap to clean.

An additional thoughtful item that makes Journey more flexible for families is the child presenter seat on all models that makes it easier for the driver to attend to a small child seat in the second row. The child presenter seat works by allowing the 60/40 fold-flat second row seat to travel 2in. forward. With the front passenger seat folded flat option, the driver can easily reach to the back to assist a child in the second row. The second row also slides rearward 2in. providing extra leg room for taller passengers.

Dodge Journey is the first vehicle in the mid-size crossover segment to offer available integrated child booster seats. These seats boost a child in the second row 4in. so they’re seated in the adult belt zone. This makes it easier for the child seated in the booster set to see outside the vehicle. The booster seat is designed for children who are as much as 4ft.9in. tall and between 48 and 85lbs.

The second-row seats also move forward and rearward a total of 4.7in. to give more legroom, bring children closer to the front seats and provide more cargo room behind the seats. Folding the second row and the available fold-flat front passenger seat flat creates plenty of room for hauling home lumber need to assemble a playscape or skis from the slopes.

On five-passenger models, a tri-fold load floor is located behind the second-row seat and provides a hidden storage compartment for added utility. The load floor is reversible and configures into a ‘grocery bag’ position. The primary side of the folding panel is carpeted for durability.

The optional third-row seat is easy to operate and get into, thanks to Journey’s stadium ‘Tilt ‘N Slide feature. With the turn of a single lever on the side of the seat back, the seat cushions easily fold upward and the seat slides forward. Journey’s available 50/50-split folding third-row seat provides enough room for two passengers on an as needed basis. The seatback reclines 6-degrees to make it even more comfortable, but anyone over 5ft.10in. is too tall for comfort. A rear in-floor hidden storage bin located behind the available third-row seat is standard on the 5+2 passenger Journey’s.

Besides storage and safety innovations, the inside is roomy, comfortable and up-to-date with the latest in creature comforts for long trips. First I noticed that the dashboard is now wrapped in premium soft-skin material that is soft to the touch giving a feeling of quality and craftsmanship. The front bucket seats are supportive but can be a little more softer. The instrument panel is new and is easy to see but the large, steering wheel can get in the way sometimes by covering the end gauges, but I like the leather wrapped, tilting and telescoping feature to get the perfect angle for easy steering. The center console is padded and is big enough to fit most personal items, and can slide 3in. to make it even more comfortable. The gated shifter is surrounded by chrome and easily moved from park to drive to reverse.

The center stack features all the buttons, dials and switches to operate the tri-zone climate controls and audio system of your choice. More innovative features inside include an optional ParkView rear backup camera with a view of the back displayed in the navigation display; optional full-color GPS Map Navigation system with 7in. display; Chill-Zone cooled beverage storage bin located above the glove box that keeps two cooled 12oz. can cool through the AC system or fresh air outlet; YES Essentials Premium Cloth Seats are stain resistant, odor resistant and anti-static for easy cleaning and a long-lasting appearance, (standard on the SXT model, leather standard on the RT model); optional Aimable LED map/reading lamps provide focused light without distracting the driver; optional, removable rechargeable LED flashlight stored in the rear cargo area is convenient when another light is needed; illuminated cupholders glow blue green for easy nighttime access; optional rear-seat entertainment system includes an 8in. color monitor that works with the radio DVD player, two wireless headphones and a wireless remote come standard; optional UConnect provides convenient, hands-free communication with BlueTooth cellular phones; four 12-volt power points for powering small electronics, two upfront, one in the second row and one in the cargo area; optional Remote Start starts a secured Journey with the key fob for added convenience; sunglass bin with child observation mirror allows you to conveniently viewing the rear occupants; optional heated front seats with leather or premium cloth seats enhance comfort, and molded map pockets with bottle holders in all four doors enhance storage and convenience.

More standard interior features in the RT model not mentioned above include power windows/door locks with driver express up/down; cruise control, 6-way power driver’s seat; power-remote/heated side mirrors, keyless entry, grab handles above each door, universal garage door opener; sentry-key theft-deterrent system, security alarm, AM-FM stereo with in-dash 6-CD/DVD player, MP3 player, 6-speakers; trip computer, tire pressure monitor, and driver personalization computer; steering wheel-mounted audio controls; leather-wrapped shift knob, self-dimming rearview mirror, and thick carpeting with signature Journey floor mats.

The front-wheel-drive Journey rides on a fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts, coil-over gas-charged shocks, and a solid stabilizer bar, while the rear features a multi-link setup with coil springs, gas-charged shocks, and a link stabilizer bar to keep the Journey flat in the curves, solid on the straights and nimble getting around slower city traffic. Enhancing precise control and comfort are the front and rear suspension crossmembers that isolate the body creating a quiet ride, with less road noise, vibration and harshness. All-wheel-drive is optional on the Journey with the 3.5 liter V6 engine.

Dodge offers three different engine/transaxle combinations to suit everyone’s special needs-higher-miles per gallon with less horsepower or lower miles per gallon with higher horsepower and a sport-tuned suspension. The RT model also features more precise steering with a performance gear integrated into the power-assisted rack & pinion steering system.

The standard engine is a 2.4 liter inline four cylinder making 173hp and 166lb.ft. of torque. It is mated to a four-speed automatic that gives back 19mpg/city and 25mpg/highway. Also available is the 2.7 liter V6 engine coupled to a four-speed automatic making 186hp and 191lb.ft. of torque and giving back 17mpg/city and 23mpg/highway. The ‘top-of-the-line’ 3.5 liter V6 produces 235hp and 232lb.ft. of torque and is mated to a smoother, 6-speed automatic. It delivers 16mpg/city and 23mpg/highway. Any of the three engines gives the Journey good get-up-and-go when needed to accelerate this 4,200lb. crossover, people, cargo mover.

Slowing the Journey quickly and safely down from speed are large, power-assisted,
4-wheel disc brakes. Up front are 11.9in. vented discs and in the rear are 12in. solid discs. Each wheel is clamped with large, single-piston calipers. Enhancing braking control is standard ABS and Brake Assist. The standard Trailer Sway Control helps maintain vehicle and trailer system stability by applying selective braking.

Options not mentioned above includes trailer tow prep, engine oil cooler, 6-Infinity premium speakers with subwoofer, 368-watt amplifier, MyGig hard drive, Sirius satellite radio, and power sunroof.

Base price for the Journey RT starts at just $25,920.00 and my loaded RT was sticker priced at just $33,595.00.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Journey is Dodge’s first entry into the growing, mid-size crossover segment. With many storage and personal innovations not found on any other competitor, it should be on the list to test drive if this type of vehicle is what you are looking for.

It moves people and cargo with the greatest of ease.

This may be a hint towards the fact that you may be able to actually get your hands on one of these cars SOON. Some of us have read posts where the 2008 Dodge Challenger models are all sold out but we have heard rumors that you may be able to order one very very soon with a slight possibility of test driving one for yourself.

Okay, so you may be confused by the title of this blog post. Don’t worry, I will explain.

It seems that Dodge has started to implement a few enhancements if you will, on the new 2009 Dodge Challenger that are similar to the Nissan GT-R’s plethora of digital car behavior-read-outs. Dodge did not have the developers of Gran Turismo 5 involved in the development of the boy-toys that are now available for the 2009 Dodge Challenger.

Many car enthusiasts know about the new Nissan GT-R and what the center console LCD screen displays. Dodge has gone and used this idea and put it on the lower portion of the Challengers gauges. Whoa, looks rather cheesy if you ask me. You be the judge… we have included a video clip from youtube where Dodge is starting to promote the new features on the 2009 Dodge Challenger which Dodge calls it the “stat-keeping Performance Pages Display”.

INTERESTING HUH?

The all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan re-writes the book on minivans.
This new Grand Caravan is completely new from the ground up with new styling, a new more powerful V6 engine, a new, smoother shifting 6-speed transmission, a new suspension, stronger brakes, and the most innovative, comfortable, multi-functional, safe and technologically advanced interior of any other factory minivan on the market.

Primarily a ‘people and cargo hauler’ like all other minivans, the all-new Dodge Caravan takes the people and cargo hauling experience to new levels of innovation, function, and enjoyment. The new, much advanced interior features comfortable seating for up to seven people with two captain’s chairs in the first and second rows and a three person bench seat for the third row.

It’s what Chrysler designers and engineers did to the interior that really makes the all-new Caravan so appealing to families that enjoy the active lifestyle.

There is much to tell so I’ll leave that for the end and look at the new overall exterior design. It is a more contemporary style with sheer, clean lines and an athletic stance along with distinctive design cues that make the new Dodge Caravan unmistakably a Dodge. Its upscale design cues with compromising Dodge brand values of a bold, powerful, exciting and durable vehicle. It has a grown up style that reflects today’s active lifestyles. The sporty appearance starts with the distinctive crosshair grille on its chiseled front end. Design cues are more contemporary in nature and include clean, sheer lines, streamlined, leaner pillars, aerodynamic side mirrors, wheel forms that go all the way to the bottom of the bodyside, a new body-to-glass proportion similar to the Dodge Charger.

To achieve a more roomier interior, the designers widened the roof by six inches, lowered the Daylight Opening (DLO) drip line, gave the beltline more rake and lowered and pulled out the sill to create a better relationship with the new, larger 17in. wheels with a new five-spoke design to further the athletic feel. The wider roof adds interior head and shoulder room, and the wider, lowered DLO helps achieve the new Charger-like glass-to-body proportion. These design cues result in a Dodge minivan that trades the familiar elliptical shape for one that is contemporary and sheer, with a protective look and athletic stance not previously seen in a Dodge Caravan.
Under the skin is a choice of three engines including a more powerful V6 engine mated to a new, a smoother shifting six-speed transaxle, a new, better handling and comfortable suspension, plus stronger brakes.

Three powertrains offer performance and value for a variety of minivan uses. The 3.3 liter V6 flex-fuel-capable engine is mated to a four-speed transaxle and produces 175hp and 205lb.ft. of torque. The 3.8 liter V6 engine is mated a new six-speed automatic transaxle that produces 197hp and 230lb.ft. of torque. The new, 4.0 liter aluminum V6 engine is mated to the new six-speed automatic transaxle that produces 251hp and 259lb.ft. of torque. The six-speed transmission is a minivan first!

The new front and rear suspension systems improve ride and handling characteristics and vehicle maneuverability. Up front are MacPherson struts, and a front cross-member that is isolated from the body, reducing road noise and harshness. Coil-springs-over shock absorbers also feature upper and lower urethane coil springs isolators that have been optimized for overall ride quality, quietness, quick, precise handling, and have been sport-tuned directionally to handle heavier g-loads. The new stabilizer bar with double ball-joint stabilizer links helps maintain a level of vehicle attitude during cornering for a more comfortable and controlled ride. Double shear brackets and pipe nuts attach the front suspension cross-member to the body to prevent road noise and transmission harshness from entering the passenger compartment.

The rear suspension features a ‘twist-beam’ setup with coil springs, gas-charged shocks, that provides improved rear stability and ride comfort. This setup improves anti-lift as much as 45% for dive, and provides improved levelness, especially on the highway.
The track bar is isolated from the axle and the body for less noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), and improved handling. Self-leveling Nivomat shocks contribute to consistent ride and handling characteristics whether loaded or unloaded, are included with the Trailer Tow Package. The all-new Grand Caravan is the only minivan to feature Nivomat shocks.

Getting the power down to the pavement are new, larger 17X7in. cast aluminum wheels and tires, that are optional, and 16X7in. machined-face cast aluminum wheels and tires standard.

Power rack & pinion steering more precisely steers the Grand Caravan where you want it to go. Enhancing ride control and direction are electronic stability control and traction control.

Quickly slowing the all-new Grand Caravan down from speed are new, larger and strong brakes. Up front are 11.9in. vented, discs clamped with dual-piston calipers while the rear discs measure 12in. are solid and are clamped with single-piston calipers. ABS, and brake assist help you maintain control while braking on wet or slick pavement.

The 2008 Dodge Caravan features 37% high strength steel for optimum structural performance. Advanced steels incorporated in the body provide excellent impact performance, improved ride and handling characteristics, enhanced body stiffness and reduced NVH. Body structure stiffness is increased 10% on the new minivan compared to last year’s model. The increased stiffness provides less ‘road shake’ and improved ride comfort for all passengers. Increased body structure stiffness was achieved by optimizing the body panel stiffness at the suspension and power-train mount attachments to reduce vehicle vibration. An additional Patch Constrained Layer (PCL) also was added to the rear wheel house to stiffen it and reduce road-induced noise, while a plenum was added to the instrument panel bracket to reduce steering-column shake at idle. In addition, a rail-to-sill brace was added at the C-pillar to reduce seat shake, and the steering column was redesigned to increase stiffness for a more solid steering feel.
A number of features in the new Caravan were designed to minimize wind noise. The all-new roof rack crossbows have a more aerodynamic shape, the all-new front doors have a rolled frame design to improve sealing and all-new wiper blades are positioned below the air stream to minimize wind noise. The new Caravan also features larger, aerodynamically shaped mirrors for better viewing and wind flow, as well as thicker side door glass to reduce wind noise.

Furthermore, the interior quietness on the new Caravan was improved with acoustic treatments such as additional seals and body fillers, engine box treatments including an under-hood silencer and shock tower silencers, more dash panel PCL coverage and an upgraded inner dash silencer to further reduce engine noise. Thicker carpet underlayment was added to reduce road and interior noise levels, while integrated seals with sill cladding also help reduce road noise.

This new Grand Caravan accelerates faster, handles more nimbly, gives a smoother ride and stops quicker. There is no vibration or flex when traveling over poorly paved roads. This aspect of the Grand Caravan is as good as you will get in 2008.
Inside it is quiet and smooth riding as Chrysler puts ‘fun-in-function’ to enjoy all of the 35 new and improved offerings only available in the all-new Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. All industry firsts!

Inside is more comfortable and roomy than ever before. The new ‘Swivel ‘n Go’ seat system offers families options not available in other minivans such as conversational seating, a place to play games or have a family meal on the run.

A key ingredient in the seating and storage mix is the all-new Swivel ‘n Go seat system with second-row quad chairs that rotate 180-degrees to face rearward for conversational seating. An easy to setup or remove table fits between the second and third rows to create a ‘kitchen table’ atmosphere that is great for playing games, eating on the go or working from the road. Second-row covered storage bins and a third-row 60/40 bench seat that folds into the floor are included in the Swivel ‘n Go system. The second-row quad seats are available with a minivan-first integrated child booster seat. The swivel features also allows easy entry and exit for children who need to be buckled into child seats or adults who just want easier entry and exit from the second row of the vehicle.

The new Caravan continues to offer the industry-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating and storage system that revolutionized the minivan segment when it was introduced in 2004. With the industry’s only fold into the floor second-and third-row seats, the Caravan can go from a seven-passenger minivan to a two-person cargo van that can carry a 4ft.X8ft. sheet of plywood in less than 30 seconds.

Both the Swivel ‘n Go and Stow ‘n Go seating and storage systems are available with a minivan first one-touch power-folding third-row seat that can be folded into four different positions with a single push of a button.

A third seating option in the new Caravan offers second-row covered storage bins with a removable bench seat and a fold-in-the-floor third-row 60/40 bench seat. Integrated child safety seats are available with the second-row bench seat. This gives the Caravan seating for eight. In addition, the Grand Caravan is the first minivan to offer power side windows to get more ventilation into the rear seating areas as needed. YES Essentials stain-resistant, odor-resistant and anti-static fabric seats offer easy clean-up and peace of mind when traveling. First and second-row heated cloth or leather seats offer flexibility and functionality for customers with active lifestyles.

Two front consoles are available in 2008. The standard console features four removable, dishwasher-safe cup holders and a center storage space. The console is low to the floor for easy pass-through capability. The optional premium sliding front console features multiple storage areas (including one large enough to hold a purse), 12-volt power outlet and four cup holders. The innovative design allows it to slide rearward in two different sections. For instance, one section can remain forward servicing front-row passengers, while the other section can slide rearward to service second-row passengers. The cup holders in the top of the console can be loaded and then slid back to the second-row passengers. DVDs, headphones or other items can be stored in the lower section of the console, which also can slide rearward for the second-row passengers to access. A total of 21in. of rearward travel occurs when both the upper and lower sections are moved rearward. The console is removable for easy pass-through.

Seat system and consoles aren’t the only fresh ideas in the new Grand Caravan. Additional storage options are found in the dual glove boxes that offer the most glove-box storage space in the segment, full-length front-door map pockets and useful storage spaces in the front doors. In addition, mesh seat pockets on the second-row bucket seats can hold cell phones, music players or handheld game system as well as a beverage, while an improved overhead console with four storage bins can house headphones. There’s also an umbrella holder next to the driver’s seat. Thirteen cup or bottle holders, including new bottle holders molded in the sliding passenger doors offer passengers plenty of locations to place their beverages when traveling. But wait, there is more.

Entertainment versatility in the all-new Grand Caravan is unmatched by competitors and features an available industry-first SIRIUS Backseat TV. SIRIUS Backseat TV is satellite TV that offers three channels of family programming: Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network Mobile and Nickelodeon Mobile. A dual-DVD system that can play different media at the same time is another minivan-first! With this feature second-row passengers play a game system. Or second and third-row passengers can watch different movies or play different gaming systems at the same time. Or one row can listen to an iPod or MP3 player and another row can watch SIRIUS Backseat TV or a movie. All can be done with wireless headphones, allowing front-row passengers to enjoy any AM-FM stereo radio station, CDs, or a SIRIUS satellite station. Dual A/V jacks, a 12-volt power outlet and a 115-volt inverter in the second-row C-pillar make aftermarket game-system converter kits a thing of the past. A ten-speaker premium surround-sound audio system with a minivan-first subwoofer and 506-watt amplifier also is available. It keeps getting better!

In addition, MyGIG multimedia infotainment system is available and is a CD/DVD/HDD/MP3 satellite radio/navigation system that features a 20-gigabyte hard drive that can store six gigabytes of music or approximately 1,200 songs. MyGIG is one of the most versatile entertainment system available and includes personalized backgrounds, voice-activated commands, touch-screen functionality, available real-time traffic and navigation, a USB port, a jukebox feature for personalized music play lists and the ability to watch a movie or SIRIUS Backseat TV while the Caravan is in park.

The all-new Dodge Grand Caravan also features an ambient halo lighting package that includes a soft, greenish-blue halo light in the headliner. This is package with pinpoint LED reading lamps in all three rows for a modern automotive interpretation of airplane passenger lights. The movable LED pinpoint lights allow passengers to read, play games or finish homework without disturbing the driver. The halo lighting creates a soft, greenish-blue light that lets passengers make eye contact when having a night-time conversation. LED map lights in the front door allow the driver and front passenger to easily see the compartments at night.

Second-row power windows, third-row power vents and second-and-third row retractable sunshades offer passengers comfort in any seating position. The sunshades can even be deployed when the second-row windows are down.

Available remote start, power sliding passenger doors and a power liftgate with a new D-pillar mounted liftgate button offer easier entry and exit.

Standard equipment coming in the all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, not mentioned above, includes AC with 3-zone temperature control with air filtration, rear seat A/C and heater controls, 8-way power front seat, 2nd. row Stow ‘n Go seating storage /with tailgate seats, Stow ‘n Go 2nd. row buckets with rear 60/40 bench seat, power windows/door locks with front express down/driver express up, 2nd. row power windows, 3rd row power vented windows, remote keyless entry, leather wrapped/tilt steering wheel, cruise control, fog lamps, overhead console with wide-angle mirror, illuminated front cup holders, left rear quarter trim storage bins, sun visors with illuminated mirrors grab handles above each passenger door, and thick-cut pile carpeting with floor mats.

Options, not mentioned above, includes security alarm, heated/leather trimmed seats, sport handling suspension, engine oil cooler, and a new key that has no metal end and goes into a dash-mounted receptacle to easily start the minivan.

Standard safety features include advanced multi-stage front airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags for all three rows, 3-point safety belts for all seats with front pretensioners and load limiters, front/rear crumple zones, energy-absorbing steering column, steel beams in each door, power adjustable pedals, tire pressure monitor, variable intermittent wipers/washers with rear intermittent wiper/washer and defroster.

The only thing that I found disappointing in the new Dodge Grand Caravan is the fact that the interior is made of hard plastic material that is not pleasurable to the touch.
Other than that, you can’t beat the styling, available power, sport-tuned suspension and interior versatility, functionality and enjoyment inside on your way to your destination.

Successfully introduced in 2007, the five-door Dodge Caliber blends the versatility of a compact sport utility with the ride quality of a compact four-door sedan. The Caliber showed its innovation with a heated and cooled beverage holder located between the triple-tiered glove box that holds four bottles or cans, and the front dual cup-holders are each illuminated with glowing light and can heat or cool. The top of the center console slides back and forth, and can hold a cell phone or MP3; plus the rear cargo light is rechargeable and clips into or out of the rear headliner enabling it to be taken out if the need arises.

With a base 1.8 liter engine making 148hp, a 2.0 liter making 158hp, and a 2.4 liter making 177hp, you have a wide choice suited for the driving habits and needs of a great variety of consumers.
For 2008 Dodge takes the Caliber to a very high level of styling and performance for enthusiasts who want to use the Caliber’s versatility, and thoroughly enjoy high levels of power and performance.

Street and Racing Technology (SRT) is Chrysler’s performance division. SRT creates some of Chrysler’s boldest, most distinctive products by following its core vision-deliver benchmark performance at the lowest price, and deliver it with absolute integrity and credibility. Every SRT vehicle showcases five key aspects-exterior styling that resonates with the brand image; race-inspired interiors; world-class ride and handling characteristics across a broad range; benchmark braking; and a standout powertrain. All of these aspects are realized in the all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4.

The Caliber SRT4 is a head-turner with its unique muscular exterior styling. Up front is the signature Dodge crosshair grille that is enlarged, moved slightly forward with extended walls to accommodate the intercooler because it is positioned higher behind the front grille.
The fascia below the crosshair grille uses functional performance features including ducts that direct air to cool the front brakes and a wide center inlet that provides airflow to the radiator. Fog lamps are positioned alongside the brake ducts. The hood incorporates a functional scoop that brings cooling air into the engine compartment and a pair of heat extractions on top to help exhaust hot air. The bottom part of the front fascia acts as an air dam to direct air around the front of the car, and wraps around to visually integrate with the large radiused wheel wells and lower side-sill moldings.

The rear fascia continues the muscular, functional character of SRT with lower vertical strakes that direct underbody airflow more smoothly contributing to increased stability at high speeds. A single, 4in. wide exhaust tip exits from the low right side.

Aerodynamic efficiency in the rear is also aided by an integrated spoiler above the rear glass. This spoiler is nearly 60% larger than that on the standard Caliber, and is tuned for smoother airflow and increased downforce while maximizing the rear view. Darth Vader would fit right beside this stunning SRT4 painted in brilliant black crystal pearl coast.

Capable of 0-60mph in just 6.1sec., the all-new Dodge Caliber SRT4 gets its power from Chrysler’s ‘world engine’. Chrysler’s ‘world engine’ is a family of small fuel-and-emissions-efficient aluminum four-cylinder gasoline engines.

This all-new 2.4 liter, dual- VVT, turbocharged ‘world engine’ generates 285hp at 5,700rpm and 265lb.ft. of torque at 2,000rpm. To make this much horsepower and torque, SRT engineers took the 2.4 liter engine block and machined it for increased water flow. They also added unique cast pistons that travel within iron cylinder liners, are cooled by oil squirters, and affixed to forged connecting rods for high-revving reliability. Tri-metal bearings are used for the connecting rods and crankshaft for high-performance durability. A unique oil pump/balance shaft module keeps the reciprocating assembly well-lubricated and running smoothly. An external cooler keeps oil temperatures within a safe range.
The aluminum cylinder head is equipped with high-temperature Inconel exhaust valves. Dual VVT uses a computer mapping to open and close intake and exhaust valves at optimal points for efficient combustion and flow while adding to the wide torque band. The camshafts and micro-alloy forged steel crankshaft, shared with the non-turbocharged 2.4 liter ‘world engine’, are fully capable of high-horsepower loads.
Free-flow induction begins with an all-new air cleaner assembly that draws cool air through an opening in the front upper crossmember. The air is then compressed in a TD04 turbocharger specially configured for the engine’s inlet and outlet packaging requirements, then sent through a large 11-row intercooler to a 57mm throttle body.
Fuel is provided by a high-flow pump feeding injectors developed specially for the Caliber SRT4. An all-new engine management system was designed by Siemens-the Global Powertrain Engine Controller-keeping the powerplant running at maximum efficiency and power.
On the exhaust side, spent gas exits through a free-flowing system that features two catalytic converters-one immediately downstream from the turbo, and another further along the 3in. single-pipe exhaust system. Using two catalytic converters in this way provides significantly better ‘light-off’ for decreased emissions. The exhaust is tuned for maximum performance while meeting federal noise regulations, but you can’t help but enjoy the throaty exhaust note when you stomp on the throttle then get pushed hard into your seatback.
Power is smoothly transferred to the front wheels through a dual-mass flywheel to the Getrag six-speed manual transmission. The dual-mass flywheel consists of two flywheels sandwiching internal springs that are specially tuned to reduce noise and vibration.
This 6-speed Getrag transmission and an electronically tuned Brake Lock Differential deliver 265lb.ft. of torque to the wheels. Putting all of this twisting torque to the ground are giant, wheel-well stuffing, Goodyear 225/45R19in. F1 Supercar tires. These super-high-performing tires are wrapped around 19X8in., SRT signature, cast-aluminum wheels.
With the SRT engineered 2.4 liter turbocharged engine making more than 100hp per liter, the 2008 Dodge Caliber is a world-class entry in the 5-door, sport-compact class.
Underpinning the Caliber SRT4 is a SRT engineered steel unitized chassis and frame that has been stiffened and strengthened to handle the heavier loads both straight-ahead and laterally. The unique fully independent suspension system furthers the high-performance driving character of the Caliber SRT4. The front suspension is lowered 13/16in. and features a MacPherson strut setup, race-bred ZF Sachs twin-tube dampers tuned by SRT, 210lb./in. coil springs, and a solid stabilizer bar. Ride height is lowered 11/16in. in the rear and features an independent multi-link system with upper & lower lateral links, and SRT-tuned ZR Sachs twin-tube coilover dampers with 240lb./in. springs, A 7/8in. link-type rear stabilizer bar in the rear helps reduce understeer and keeps body roll to a minimum during hard cornering.
Guiding the Caliber SRT4 is a power-assisted rack & pinion steering system tuned by SRT to produce easier low-speed maneuvering without compromising performance at speed. At any speed it gave me a great feel for the road and sharp and quick response to my inputs, especially during heavy g-loads. Even though the Caliber SRT4 is a front-wheel-drive performance car, it performed better than my expectations were. I had fun wringing out the rear in hard turns but really wanted to see all-wheel-drive and the enhanced traction and grip. I’d rather let the rear wheels get loose with rear-wheel-drive than with front-wheel-drive. I am biased toward pushing rather than being pulled.
Helping you during severe maneuvers is the standard Electronic Stability Program that is uniquely calibrated to provide excellent directional stability in all driving modes without being overly intrusive. Just like more expensive sports cars, you really don’t know when it is working.
Quickly slowing the new Caliber SRT4 down from speed are big, power-assisted, SRT engineered steel disc brakes at each corner. Up front are 13.4in. vented discs clamped with large dual-piston aluminum calipers, while the rear features 11.7in. solid discs clamped with big, single-piston calipers. The ABS system was uniquely calibrated for the SRT4’s performance to maintain directional stability without wheel lockup, and Brake Assist helps to minimize braking distance. All brake calipers are painted in signature Dodge SRT red.

The race-inspired interior is unique with sophisticated and contemporary appointments not found inside another compact crossover. SRT designers infused the interior with performance-oriented enhancements to complement the Caliber SRT4’s aggressive styling.

SRT touches include sport bucket seats with aggressive bolstering and performance fabrics to hold occupants firmly in place during exhilarating driving times, and a leather-wrapped sporty 3-spoke steering wheel with a ‘carbon fiber’ pattern on the upper portion.

The seats, steering wheel and leather shift boot feature contrasting red stitching. Also unique to the SRT4 is an ‘alloy silver’ finish on the instrument panel and shift bezel, and bright aluminum pedal pads that feature rubber studs for better grip.

The center-stack-mounted short-throw shifter includes a lift ring to engage reverse-unique to the SRT4-as well as a leather boot with a carbon-fiber pattern, a leather-finished shifter knob and cap with a bright chrome finish.
