In model year 2007 Ford introduced the Ford 500 which didn’t meet their initial sales projections for a full-size sedan. Hoping to improve the movement of this large sedan off Ford dealer lots, Ford changed the name to the older but more recognized Taurus brand, made several updates to the exterior styling, added a more powerful engine and a 6-speed transmission, then kept the interior as it was when it was called the 500.

Ford has recently issued a recall for 434,593 Ford Mustangs ranging from the model years of 2005 to 2008. The recall comes about from test by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration where they showed there could be an increased risk of neck injury during airbag deployment. The discovered risk may be greater for small females in the front passenger seat who are unbelted and sitting in the full-forward position.
Ford dealerships are prepared to deal with the issue by performing a reprogramming of a restraint control module free of charge. The recall campaign is expected to start February 28th and in the mean time consumers can call 866-436-7332 or email the contacts at www.ownerconnection.com for any updates and/or questions.

In 2006 Ford introduced the Freestyle that was a cross between a stationwagon and sport utility. Unfortunately sales lagged behind the projected numbers so Ford designers and engineers went back to the drawing board, i.e., computer screen, and Ford’s list of previous brand names. The engineers and designers came up with a design that makes the Taurus X look more like the all-new Ford Edge, then changed its name to Taurus.
Why not name it Edge X since it is designed to compete in the hot selling crossover segment, like the Edge, but not Taurus X since last year’s Ford 500 is now being referred to and called the Taurus. It all sounds confusing but Ford did a better job with the Taurus X than when it was first introduced two years ago.
Changes were made to the exterior design of the Taurus X to make it look similar to the Ford Edge including the step-up headlamps and the distinctive new Ford three-bar chrome grille. The Taurus X also comes with a restyled hood, newly shaped front fenders and fascia with headlamps and fog lamps mounted in new chrome surrounds.
The new rear fascia features Edge-inspired taillamps, dual chrome-tipped exhaust pipes and an available Reverse Sensing System for added safety when backing up. A new roof rack features a tougher, more rugged design for carrying cargo up top.
Top 10 New Features of 2007
Source: cars.com
Although flying cars aren’t yet a reality, automakers are continually developing new technologies to make our cars safer and more futuristic. Here are some of our favorite automotive features from 2007 that edge us ever-closer to a car George Jetson would be proud of. Features from a number of cars made our list, but the 2008 Infiniti EX35 received the most mentions, including the top spot with our favorite new feature, Lane Departure Prevention.
Best New Feature: Lane Departure Prevention
Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35

Infiniti’s Lane Departure Prevention builds on conventional lane-departure warning systems, which detect lane markings and sound a chime if you drift astray. LDP goes one step further by gently applying the brakes to certain wheels to nudge you back on course. Sound too intrusive? We tried it out in the EX35 and it keeps a remarkably low profile. Hit the turn signal or steer the wheel slightly, and the system deactivates. On straight roads, it intervenes with just a hint of deceleration, and the dashboard chime alerts you of its actions. For its effectiveness and low profile, LDP is the winner.
Scratch Shield Paint
Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35

The crusade for city-friendly transportation began years ago with plastic bumpers and dent-resistant doors. It reaches new heights with Infiniti’s Scratch Shield paint. On the EX35, Scratch Shield combines a highly elastic resin with the clearcoat finish. The resulting surface is said to maintain a glossy appearance over the years, and it can actually undo minor damage in the course of a few days. While Scratch Shield won’t repair dents or gashes, Infiniti says it can restore things like fingernail scratches under the door handles. We haven’t had a chance to see it in action, but we’re intrigued by the prospects.
