Speed Kings – Road & Track Exclusive

In case you missed this show down of the “speed kings” then here it is. Follow this link to Road and Track’s test of unbridled acceleration from a standing start to 200 mph. During the memorial day weekend these guys didn’t exactly bar-b-q but they had a BBQ on the asphalt at the Naval Air Station Lemoore in California’s San Joaquin Valley.

Benz to release the 200 mph drop-top roadster and bring it to our shores as a 2008 model. McLaren’s Formula 1 factory in

Woking, England, they only plan to have a handful of these topless models available for the lusting men with the big enough bank account and waiting nerves.

 

 

 

 

 

We will get to the bottom line figures here and not leave you guessing.

The new SLR convertible shares most of it’s construction with the hardtop version… carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, carbon-fiber body panels, and the famous butterfly doors. A semiautomatic fabric top which opens in fewer than 10 seconds was chosen vs. a heavier retractable hardtop, will be fitted for cost saving reasons… ha ha yea right!

 

 

This new Benz SLR McLaren Roadster is to have the 617-hp, 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 with 575 pound-feet of torque pushing it from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 207 mph all complete with an AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission. Whoa, you ever seen a drop-top convertible do that kind of speed. We didn’t think so.
