On The Cutting Edge of Performance and Luxury

The all-new 2009 Infiniti FX50 stands at the top of the performance luxury sport utility segment. I can say that because after my first drive, I was so impressed with the added power, handling, the luxurious appointments, high-tech gear, and the multitude of safety systems that also includes more sensors than you can shake a stick at. My only disappointment was that there is no power liftgate available. No big deal but it could come in handy when you are carrying cargo to the rear with both arms.

None the less, the new FX50 continues with head-turning styling and sporty proportions that enabled the first generation FX45 to stand out from all other performance luxury crossovers on the market with its long hood, stretched wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs, and a low stance.

The aggressive styling serves notice of its performance capability, yet FX50 also offers room for five and the cargo capacity to hold four full-size golf bags.

New distinctive, chrome side air vents have been added behind the front fenders and are functional, allowing air to flow through the engine compartment and out the side of the vehicle, reducing front end lift by a full 5%, thus improving high-speed stability.

The front fascia retains the FX’s lustrous Infiniti signature double-arch front grille, fog lamps, and Adaptive High Intensity Discharge bi-xenon projector headlamps. The wheelbase has been stretched 1.4in. with the front wheels moved forward and out-providing a more pronounced performance stance.

The aggressive silhouette is once again highlighted by a strong front-to-rear shoulder line, a tight greenhouse with a wraparound chrome strip, kicked-back roofline and integrated rear spoiler. The large LED taillights extend beyond the body, helping create aerodynamic downforce, while big dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips cap the action-ready appearance.

The vehicle’s unique sporty styling works for me with its sexy, curvy lines, lowered stance, and big, 21in. wheels and tires stuffing the flared, rounded fenders. Black molding wraps around each wheelwell to further the aggressive look.

The only straight line is at the bottom of the doors that now feature a tasteful chrome strip. Deep side extensions below give it a lower the center of gravity, enhancing stability even more.

Under the FX’s polished, assertive styling is an equally advanced body structure. It uses the rigid platform architecture from the performance-oriented Infiniti G sedan, G coupe and M sedans. The FM (front-midship) flatform offers a performance foundation and balanced front-to-rear weight distribution for exceptional handling.

Efforts were taken to reduce weight and enhance body strength, including the use of new aluminum outer door panels. The overall FX body structure weighs nearly 200lbs. less than the previous FX, but the overall vehicle weight is increased due to additional equipment.

The new FX comes standard with the industry’s first use of Infiniti’s Advanced Scratch Shield paint which is a special ‘self-healing’ clearcoat paint that repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles. Over a period of several days, using sunlight to heat the clearcoat, causes the small scratches to fill in.

Open the wide-opening doors, easily step over the stainless steel Infiniti kick plate, and you’ll discover a driver-oriented cockpit design that is sporty, comfortable, ergonomic, and luxurious with several breakthrough innovations.

The command center-style cockpit is designed to enhance your driving experience. The optional quilted leather-appointed 10-way power-adjustable sports driver’s seat includes variable air-inflating side bolster and lumbar support, and available thigh extensions. The front passenger seat offers 8-way power adjustments, and both seats are available with a new, quieter, more efficient heating and cooling functions for maximum comfort in any season.

The attention to detail and materials such as the real, hand-cut and rubbed wood, premium leather, aluminum, chrome, and quality soft-to-the-touch materials are designed beautifully around the Infiniti signature double-wave instrument panel, door trim, and easy to see white/violet Fin Vision electroluminescent gauges.

Optional is a new Automatic Driving Position system, which moves the seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors adaptively into the correct position-allowing you to change seat position while driving and keep the same mirror viewpoint and relationship between the steering column and your shoulder position.

The incredible FX50 interior comes standard with an array of comfort and convenience equipment, including a sporty, tilt/telescoping 3-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel for the perfect reach and angle, leather-wrapped shift knob, front door pockets, front seatback pockets, dual front and rear cupholders, locking glove box, center console with soft leather armrest, four assist grips, overhead sunglass holder, four 12-volt power plugs, power windows with front/rear one-touch up/down on FX50, dual map lamps, thick-cut pile carpeting with signature Infiniti front/rear/cargo floor mats, Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Start/Stop ignition, power door locks, sporty aluminum pedals, auto-diming rearview mirror, power-remote/heated side mirrors, cruise-control with steering wheel controls, front/rear intermittent wipers/washers and a special Welcome Lighting system with 12-point sequential lighting that starts by turning on the puddle lights under the side mirrors as you approach the vehicle, and continues to light key areas as you and your passengers settle into the interior. All buttons, dials and switches are within easy reach and fully illuminated for safer nighttime driving.

Another new option is an Advanced Climate Control System with Plasmacluster ionizer that removes or neutralizes interior airborne contaminants. The system includes a ‘clean mode’ which emits a low concentration of negative and positive ions that attach to airborne particles (mold, fungi, spores, etc.); causing an attraction to interior surfaces so they are no longer floating around, while rendering them harmless.

An ‘ion mode’ creates a high concentration of negative ions to impart a freshness and crispness to the air, similar to what people say they experience after a thunderstorm or near a waterfall.

In addition, the FX50 utilizes a new filter using fibers impregnated with natural grape seed polyphenol, which has the ability to neutralize allergens that conventional filters cannot remove due to their incredibly small size (0.3 to 0.5 microns).

The new FX comes equipped with state-of-the-art audio-an advanced Bose audio system, acoustically engineered by Bose to optimize sound within the FX’s interior. The 11-speaker system features an AM-FM-6CD player, an advanced Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter (DAC) system, XM satellite radio, diversity antenna and steering wheel-mounted remote buttons.

The optional Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System features XM NavTraffic with real time traffic information and a 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive for digital music storage and playback. The Interface System works with an iPod, the compact flash card slot, and Voice Recognition system for climate control, navigation, audio system and phone functions.

Other high-tech features inside include RearView Monitor and an optional Infiniti DVD Mobile Entertainment System with a 9in. flip-down console-mounted rear monitor, two wireless headphones and remote controller. Both the front and rear screens can display DVD content (front only when parked), a good idea.

I was blown away by the new interior design, sportiness, luxury, convenience and high-tech creature comfort and fun-to-use features. The FX50’s fully loaded interior really gives me the feeling of being more connected to the vehicle. Once acquainted with all of the controls and features, it just further moves the FX50 on up the ladder to the top of the luxury class sport utilities.

Firmly placing the all-new 2009 FX50 atop the segment is the exhilarating power and responsive, high-performance handling that I experienced once I put my foot down hard on the throttle.

The FX50 features a new 5.0 liter DOHC 32-valve, all-aluminum V8 engine rated at 390hp and 369lb.ft. of torque. The engine also features a high rev limit, a powerful, throaty engine sound from the specially tuned dual exhaust system, and improved fuel economy verses the previous 4.5 liter V8 engine. One of the keys to the new V8’s impressive performance is the adoption of Infiniti’s patented Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL) valve control technology, which was first introduced on the high-performance 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe.

The VVEL system continuously adjusts valve event and lift amounts, enabling higher fuel efficiency with higher torque and improved emissions over conventional VV designs. The VVEL intake camshafts, which feature continuously variable lift control teamed with a continuously variable valve timing control system (CVTCS), allow for a 6,800rpm redline and a high compression ratio of 10.9:1.

For those economical-minded consumers, the FX35 comes with a 3.5 liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine that is rated at 303hp at 6,800rpm and 262lb.ft. of torque.

Only one transmission is offered on the new FX-an all-new 7-speed automatic transmission, the first ever offered on an Infiniti vehicle. This new transmission offers both a wide ratio of coverage and a wide lock-up area, as well as a manual shift mode, downshift rev matching and adaptive shift control (ASC).

The standard ASC system adapts the transmission’s shift time, depending on your driving style, ensuring more responsive performance. ASC can switch between several different programs –adjusting gear hold and downshifting, helping the FX feel more like a manual shift transmission when you want. The standard solid magnesium paddle shifters on the FX50 enable you to shift the transmission without releasing you hands from the wheel which helps you maintain stability when accelerating or decelerating or when cornering at high speeds.

FX50 AWD and FX35 AWD models are equipped with Infiniti’s advanced ATTESAE-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically transfers optimum torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions. The system provides outstanding torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions. The system provides outstanding handling due to optimum torque distribution from the front to rear (50:50 up to 0:100). ATTESA E-TS also provides high starting traction performance and smooth, stable acceleration, especially in snow-covered or off-road situations with a 50:50 torque split at standing start.

Allowing you to maintain a rock solid ride at speed straight-ahead, when challenging curving back roads, and getting around slow moving city traffic is the fully independent suspension with a new double-wishbone design up front. This new front setup offers better ride and improved handling reflexes.

The rear setup utilizes the multi-link design from the last FX45, but is refined to weigh less and provide more wheel travel-again for improved ride and handling. Large diameter stabilizer bars front and rear keep body lean to a bare minimum improving handling performance. The suspension system also incorporates special ‘dual flow path’ shock absorber technology with rebound springs for a responsive, yet comfortable ride. and firm, tight reactions to your inputs.

A new optional Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension system offers special electronically controlled shock absorbers. Using input from a variety of sensors, the system continuously alters the damping of the shocks to provide optimal ride and handling response. A selectable switch on the center console has two settings, ‘Auto’ and ‘Sport’, allowing you to control the shock valving levels depending on how you want the vehicle to react to your inputs at the time.

The FX50 is available with an advanced Rear-Active Steer system-the first of its kind for a SUV, which uses precise, electronic motor-driven control to turn the rear wheels up to one-degree, helping generate a nimble steering response at low speeds, and enhance stability at high speeds, especially on curving roads. The result is a vehicle that is able to change direction with improved quickness, precision and stability.

The FX50 comes standard with huge, 21X9.5in., lightweight, six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels developed by Enkei, and were created using a special type of ultra-lightweight casting and are as light as many smaller 18X8in. alloy wheels. These deluxe wheels are wrapped with 265/45R21in. all-season tires or W-rated high-performance summer tires.

These giant tires improve traction and stability, while improving the already compliant ride over poorly paved roads.

When you want to let your search for thrills take over you can always shut down the Infiniti advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system with Traction Control by pushing on the VDC button on the lower dashboard to your left, canceling out the computer controlled vehicle intervention that uses the throttle and brakes to prevent oversteer and understeer in certain situations. The ride is like they say,’ riding on rails’.
Powerful and secure braking performance is provided by the FX50’s 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with Brake Assist, ABS, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution enhancements. The FX50 system includes 4-piston front/2-piston rear (opposed piston) calipers clamping down on large 14in. rotors. The brakes are very strong and when I pushed on the pedal the feel was very linear and precise.

Infiniti engineers and designers pretty much covered everything about what an up-to-date, luxury and performance-driven sport utility should include, and I now want to mention the breakthrough, advanced automotive safety warning technologies and systems.

The intelligent brake assist system (IBA) uses the laser rangefinder from the Intelligent Cruise Control’s (ICC) system and analyzes closing speeds to an obstacle ahead to prevent or reduce damage caused by a rear-end collision.

Also available is a Distance Control Assist (DCA) system. Designed for low-speed, heavy traffic situations. DCA uses the Intelligent Cruise Control sensors to measure distance to the car a head. The DCA allows one-foot driving in heavy traffic-you depress the throttle to move forward, but when the car ahead slows, DCA ‘pushed back’ on the throttle, and automatically applies the brakes, even to a stop. You then depress the throttle to get moving again.

The available Intelligent Cruise Control (full speed range) system combines the brakes, throttle sensor and laser rangefinder with the cruise control system to automatically maintain a set distance between you and the vehicle in front.

Also available is the advanced Infiniti Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, which takes Infiniti’s existing LDP one step further. LDP utilizes the FX’s Vehicle Dynamic Control System to apply slight brake pressure to the wheels opposite the side of the lane departure direction to help prevent the vehicle from inadvertently traveling out of its intended lane. If no action is taken by the driver, alarm bells will sound.

The breakthrough, optional, ‘Around View Monitor System’ is fantastic, and utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras-mounted on the front, side and rear of the FX-to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle, helping reduce blind spots when parking. The system uses advanced image processing to provide a unique one-of-a-kind ‘birds-eye-view’ of the vehicle, making it easy for you to position the FX for parallel parking by simultaneously confirming the exact placement of the front and rear of the vehicle. I love the system, it even showed the red paint on the curb as I backed as close to its beginning as I wanted to. It really gives you an overhead view.

When you put the transmission into reverse the 8in. screen is split between a TV image showing what is behind the vehicle, and the Around View.

Standard safety equipment includes 3-point front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, and three, three point seat belts in the standard 40/60 split back seats, dual-stage front supplemental airbags with passenger seat occupant classification system and seat belt sensor, roof-mounted side-impact and rollover curtain airbags for enhanced outboard seat occupant head protection, active head restraints, tire pressure monitoring system and LATCH child seat anchors.

FX also has an optional Pre-Crash seat belts that automatically cinches-up the FX’s seat belts if the system detects emergency braking, skidding movements or an emergency handling situation-based on information from the brake pedal stepping speed and stroke.

I don’t know what I have left out but the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX50 is phenomenal, easily ahead of the rest in the growing luxury sport utility segment with the spirit of a high-performing luxury sport sedan that can’t be beat!

2009 Ford Mustang GT Coupe – “America’s Favorite Pony Car”

The Ford Mustang coupe continues as America’s favorite Pony car and celebrates 45-years in production. The latest GT performance coupe is fun and thrilling to drive, comes well equipped and is priced right at just $27,020.00. It is the ‘biggest bang for the buck’.

The Mustang GT is sporty and spry from any angle: a menacing shark-like nose with trapezoidal jeweled headlamps behind clear lens imparts an attitude not seen since the ’67 model, the signature aluminum power-dome hood and short rear deck, dual exhaust tips, swept-back A-pillars, side C-scoops, flared fenders, lower rocker panels, while short overhangs and 18X8in. wheels, anchor the design to the ground and give it visual motion. The rear spoiler helps increase downforce at high speeds.

The retro-modern looks give an indication of what lies under the skin and ready to unleash all of its power and performance. A bulging aluminum hood covers the GT’s 4.6 liter, all-aluminum, SOHC, 3-valve per cylinder, variable camshaft timing, V8 engine that cranks out an abundant 300hp at 5,750rpm and 320lb.ft. of torque at 4,500rpm.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a standard Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. Equipped with the 5-speed manual 3:55 gears, a limited-slip differential and shod with the optional 18X8in. aluminum wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich 235/50ZR18in. g-Force T/A’s, the GT can blast out to 60mph from a standstill in just 5.3sec. Faster than any $27,000.00 sport coupe.

Under the stiff, unitized steel frame and chassis is Mustang’s unique suspension system.
Up front is an independent setup with reverse-L links, MacPherson struts and a 34mm tubular stabilizer bar. The unique rear features a 3-link solid axle with coil springs, gas-charged monoshocks, Panhard rod and 20mm solid stabilizer bar. Utilizing the precision of the power-assisted rack & pinion steering system enables the Mustang GT to quickly go where you point it to go. Turn-in is quick and sharp, while the rear setup keeps the wheels solidly planted on the ground when exiting sharp curves at high speed. There is virtually no roll during high-speed cornering. Behind the wheel is similar to being on a roller-coaster, you feel as if you are riding on rails all of the time. The standard traction control system helps to keep the drive-wheels turning, enhancing your control during spirited driving.

Quickly and safely slowing the Mustang GT down from speed are the larges brakes ever in a GT. Up front are 12.4in. vented discs clamped down with 43mm, floating dual-piston aluminum calipers. The 11.8in. vented rear discs are clamped with single-piston 43mm floating iron calipers. Standard ABS lets to keep the brakes from locking up when applying the brakes hard on slick road surfaces.

It is a real thrill ride while cornering as you can easily let the rear slide out when you increase speed on exits, and so rock solid during high-speed straight-line driving.
The interior only increases the fun and enjoyment of owning a new Mustang GT.

The frameless front doors open wide for easy entry and exit. The ribbed, high-back bucket seats are comfortable and supportive. The aluminum-topped shifter is set in the right place and fun to use. Aluminum-faced foot pedals with rubber inserts help during fast footwork.

The sporty, leather-wrapped, tilting, 3-spoke steering wheel feels great in your hands, but I would like to see a telescopic feature to give the best possible reach and angle for even better steering-wheel control. The T-shaped instrument panel features new charcoal aluminum trim plates to give it a darker look, while the four, chrome-ring air-vents aligned vertically across the dash, precisely in line with the big chrome-ringed instrument cluster gauges. The dashboard eye-lash is now covered with hand-cut and sewn leather giving the interior a new elegant feel. The steering wheel has 3-spokes with the center hub marked by the horse and tricolor bars logo, echoing the design of the ’67 Mustang. The center console features dual-cup-holder and a deep storage bin with a soft top to rest your elbow.

Also inside is Mustang’s industry-first ‘MyColor’ color-configurable instrument cluster offering the ultimate in personalization. Mustang owners can mix and match more than 125 color backgrounds to suit your mood, personality, etc. Ford also lets owners color outside the lines with an optional interior ambient light package. This unique feature offers the option of illuminating the front and rear footwells and front cup-holders with anyone of seven colors-red, orange, blue, indigo, violet, green and yellow.

Standard equipment include an auxiliary audio input jack, Mustang signature door entry sill plates, one-touch power down/up windows, power mirrors, keyless entry, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, 60/40 split-rear bench seat, power locks, heated rear window, interval wipers/washers, A/C, cruise-control, dual map lamps, dual vanity mirrors, self-dimming rearview mirror, Shaker 500 audio system with AM-FM-6X CD player, MP3 and 6-speakers.

Options include Shaker 1000 audio system with 10in. subwoofer, active anti-theft alarm, heated seats, 3.55 ratio limited slip differential, SIRIUS satellite radio, and DVD based navigation system.

Standard safety features include front/rear crumple zones, steel beams in each door, driver/front passenger airbags, driver/front passenger side airbags, and front/rear 3-point safety belts with load limiters and pretensioners up front.

For the past 22 straight years, the Ford Mustang has been America’s number one selling sporty coupe and with this latest high-performing Mustang GT, the streak should continue for a long time as the Ford Mustang GT is the least expensive way to truly enjoy the fun and excitement that only a sports car can give to its owner.

With its new ‘candy white’ custom paint, VW’s ultimate sedan is looking more sleek and stylish than ever. The Passat VR6 4Motion is the most accessible German-made near-luxury sedan on the market. It features segment-leading room, comfort, sophisticated technology, and yes, great performance on the pavement.

The styling is clean and smooth with a deep, black aero kit running from front to rear that lowers the appearance and stance of the car. Up front is the VW signature chrome grille with three black intakes at the flanks with integrated fog lamps. The lamp clusters are cut into the top of the fascia and feature adaptive Bi-Xenon head lamps with projector beam turning lamps and Daytime Running Lamps. The silhouette shows the swept-back windshield pillars, aero-styled remote/heated side mirrors, pull-out door handles, a wide chrome strip running around the greenhouse, thick B-pillar, and a ‘sling-shot’ rear side glass treatment. The roof quickly falls to the top of the short trunk lid with a lip spoiler at the edge. The rear fascia features wrap-around lamps clusters, a chrome strip that starts behind the front fenders, and two, round exhaust tips.

Powering the Passat VR6 4Motion is a potent 3.6 liter, DOHC VVT Direct Gasoline Injection V6 engine featuring a cast iron block and aluminum heads. This engine generates 280hp and 265lb.ft. of toque and is mated to a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic with paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a ‘Sport’ gear that quickens shift times and gear ratios. The VW 4Motion all-wheel-drive system comes standard is from Sweden’s Haldex. It features a locking center differential that ensures grip and traction in all weather conditions, also enhancing its handling prowess.

The fully galvanized steel unitized body and frame is very stiff and doesn’t allow any noise, vibration or harshness to seep into the car when you are driving. You’ll also have to thank VW for the unique, fully independent suspension that under-pins the chassis and gives back such comfortable and controlled ride.

Up front is a MacPherson design with triangular wishbones, coil springs, self-leveling, telescopic shocks and a stabilizer bar. The rear features a 4-link design with self-leveling telescopic shocks; weight optimized anti-roll bar and axle acoustically decoupled from the body.

Quick reaction to your inputs is via the electromechanical power rack & pinion steering system. The wheel did feel a little light but always kept me going where is wanted the car to go. A standard electronic stabilization program is combined with anti-slip regulation (traction control), and electronic differential locking for even great handling ability. The VR6 4Motion Passat has its engine mounted transversely rather longitudinally because it frees up cabin space and allows for enhanced balance and smoother powertrain operation.

The new Passat VR6 4Motion can blast out to 60mph from a standstill in just 6.2sec. and return 26mpg/highway and 16mpg/city.

Big, 18X8in. aluminum alloy wheels are wrapped with Pirelli 235/40R P6 performance tires that stuff the fenders and enhance traction and grip.

The big brakes fitted to the VR6 4Motion enabled me to go into a turn deeper, knowing that these large, 4-wheel discs will quickly and safely slow the car down. Up front are 13.5in. vented discs clamped with big, dual-piston calipers while the rear features 12in. solid discs clamped with large, single-piston calipers. Standard ABS and Brake Assist enhance braking control and power.

The first class interior is both comfortable and sporty. The doors open very wide to reveal deeply cut, leather trimmed, 12-way adjustable front bucket seats with an
‘old-school’ ribbed design. These seats are very comfortable and very supportive, perfect for spirited driving. The standard leather-wrapped steering wheel features tilt-telescoping for the perfect angle and reach. A red backlit information display is positioned between the tachometer and speedometer for easy reading. The display includes a compass, odometer, and indicators for the radio station, gear selector and outside temperature.

The T-shaped dashboard features a ‘floating’ top design that is very refreshing to see.
The interior is beautifully trimmed in aluminum and chrome showing the old-world craftsmanship found in the finest German automobiles. A Danish-built Dynaudio AM-FM-CD/MP3 with six-disc in-dash CD changer comes with eight speakers and steering wheel audio controls. Optional is a DVD-based navigation system, SIRIUS satellite radio, adaptive cruise-control and power sunroof.

Standard features include dual-zone climate control with pollen filter, cruise-control, all windows express up/down with central locking, 4-person memory, front center armrest with storage, dual cup holders/front and rear, remote release for trunk and fuel door, press-start ignition switch, front and rear carpeted floor mats, cargo net, grab handles above each door, electronic parking brake, heated windshield washer nozzles, intermittent front wipers with rain sensor speed control, dual map lamps, lighted vanity mirrors, rear reading lights and 40/60 split-folding rear seats that can help with large cargo items.

Standard safety features include driver/front passenger airbag supplemental restraint system, driver/front passenger side airbags, side-curtain protection front/rear, 3-point safety belts for all five places with front pretensioners/load limiters, lower anchors for LATCH, child safety rear doors, daytime running lamps, tire pressure monitoring, front/rear crush zones and steel beams in each door.

The 2008 Volkswagon Passat VR6 4Motion is one of the best bargains out there for a very well made German four-door sedan, just a hair short of the Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series but priced thousands less than any comparably-equipped model.

With gasoline prices headed for the stratosphere, many consumers are looking for compact vehicles that bring higher mpg and more function for their day-to-day driving needs. The all-new 2008 Saturn Astra brings all of that plus a decidedly European flavor to Saturn showrooms across the country. It is packed with a wide range of standard equipment and safety features, and delivers sporty performance with very good fuel economy.

The Astra is offered in three-door and five-door models, each underpinned by a taut, European-bred suspension that delivers a sharp, responsive driving experience. Power comes from a 1.8 liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine that is both energetic and economical, delivering 140hp and 24mpg/city and 30mpg/highway. Astra’s combination of style, performance, low price, safety technology and fuel efficiency are sure to make it a hit when it comes to Saturn showrooms in the late summer.

Saturn offers two trim levels, (XE & XR) for five-door models, and a single trim (XR) in the three-door model, which was created with enthusiast drivers in mind.

The standard powertrain combination in all models is the 1.8 liter Ecotec DOHC four-cylinder engine, paired with a five-speed manual. The Ecotec engine is enhanced with VVT to optimize power output and fuel efficiency generating 138hp and 126lb.ft. of torque. That equates to a healthy 77hp per liter. A four-speed automatic is optional.

Astra offers new technologies to provide an agile, yet comfortable, driving experience.
StabiliTrak stability control system with traction control is standard on all three-door Astra’s, and available on five-door models. This system works in concert with the standard four-wheel, ABS brake system to help you maintain control during adverse road conditions or during sudden emergency driving situations.

An electro-hydraulic, rack & pinion steering system is standard on all models. This system provides a solid, linear feel of a hydraulic power steering system, but improves fuel efficiency by operating the power steering pump only when necessary.
Five-door Astra’s come standard with 16X6in. wheels, but can be upgraded to 17X7in. aluminum wheels. Three-door models come standard with 17X7in. aluminum wheels, which can be upgraded to 18X8in. aluminum wheels and performance tires.

All Astra models have specifically tuned suspensions with the three-door Astra receiving a sport-tuned setup that includes a 15mm lower ride height, quicker steering calibration, a specific front axle configuration and an electronically aided sport chassis system. This sport-tuned setup is also available on the five-door model. Up front is a strut-type setup with control arms, stabilizer bar and steering rack mounted to the subframe. All of the front suspension’s bushings are designed to minimize noise and vibration. The rear setup features a semi-independent torsion-link axle design, with an axle-beam formed to a double-U-shaped profile. This enhances strength and also serves as a stabilizer bar. The rear control arms also feature integrated wheel carriers that are made from lightweight, one-piece, hollow-cast material. These lightweight control arms reduce unsprung mass, for an increased feel of nimbleness. The hollow control arms are connected to the high-strength rear axle beam via the Opel-developed Magnetarc welding process, which enables high axle loads and a compact package. You’ll really enjoy the Astra’s sharp turn-in and solid feel when traveling at high speeds.

Quickly and safely slowing the Astra down from speed are bigger than expected power-assisted steel discs at all four corners. The front vented discs measure 12.2in. and are clamped with dual-piston calipers, while the rear solid discs measure 10.4in. and are clamped with single-piston calipers. Standard ABS keeps you in control on slick surfaces.

The Astra has a clean, contemporary design that is infused with Saturn’s signature styling cues including a bold, bright grille bar with a prominent Saturn log. At the sides are strong light clusters behind clear lenses; and below is a deep air-intake with chrome surround; and at its sides are strong round foglamps. From the side you’ll notice the low, sleek design with lower side rocker panels. The rear features a bold bumper, large, wraparound taillights and clear lenses. bright trim bar, spoiler and rear wiper/washer. The proportions on both body styles suggest an enthusiastic driving experience with the wheels pushed to the corners and subtle fender flares wrapped tightly around the tires for a tailored stance.

Bold design, refinement and precise execution are the hallmarks of the Saturn Astra’s interior, which envelops passengers in a contemporary environment that maximizes space, comfort and safety. Details include a continuation of the exterior’s center hood crease on the center of the instrument panel, as well as a V-shaped center stack motif that also complements the design language of the exterior. All models convey the Astra’s sporting character through firm, well-supported seats and a thick, three-spoke steering wheel with tilt/telescoping adjustments for the perfect fit. Ahead of the steering wheel is a rounded cockpit binnacle that houses a large, three-dimensional gauge cluster.

The sporty Astra three-door receives specific seats with more aggressive bolsters and lumbar support to keep you firmly in place during spirited driving. Additional interior highlights include an illuminated glove box with damped door actuation, a large, two-panel sunroof, the largest in its class, (only available on five-door models), optional headed seats in cloth or leather, auxiliary 12-volt power outlet, easy-to-remove rear cargo cover, power door locks and power windows all with express down feature, standard six-speaker AM/FM/CD radio and optional seven-speaker sound system, multi-disc and MP3-capable radios optional, dual map lamps, sunglass holder, grab handles above each passenger door, steering wheel mounted audio controls on XR models, A/C with air filtration, manual driver seat height adjustment, dual visor vanity mirrors, floor mats front and rear, driver information center, rear cargo cover and cargo tie down hooks.

Options not mentioned above include leather seating surfaces, steering wheel and shift lever.
Astra’s bold proportions, including a long, 103in. wheelbase, a 170.5in. overall length, and a 69in. width, provide exceptional roominess and generous storage capacity. The 60/40-split folding rear seat also folds flat with the touch of a convenient, high-mounted lever. When the rear seat is folded, the five-door Astra offers 44.7cu.ft. of storage space.

With the new 2009 ZR1 Corvette with 620hp waiting in the wings for its launch later this summer, the mighty 505hp Z06 Corvette will end its short three year reign as the fastest Corvette ever with a scorching time of 3.7sec. to 60mph from a standstill, in first gear, and a top speed of 198mph. No one can deny that the Z06 is one of the world’s fastest production 2-seat sports cars, and is in very rare company.

What many critics and consumers were turned off about the 07’ Z06, and all ’07 C6 Corvettes, wasn’t about the sexy styling or performance numbers, it was the interior.

This year Chevy puts that to rest by offering the optional, custom, two-tone, hand cut and stitched leather-wrapped interior package for the 2008 Z06 and all 2008 C6 Corvettes. This has been the Corvette Achilles Heel and the new custom interior includes two-tone upper and lower instrument panel, instrument cluster, door pads, console top, perforated sport seats; padded door panel armrests, Corvette embroidered on passenger-side dash pad, embroidered crossed flags logo on each headrest; a wrapped center trim plate with a Cyber bias pattern; new brushed aluminum accents around the shifter and dual cup-holders. With the new, high-quality materials and craftsmanhip all around you’ll quickly appreciate the new attention to detail. The instrument cluster layout is very sporty with a big, Z06 signature 220mph speedometer, 7,000rpm tachometer, and smaller gauges for fuel, oil pressure, engine coolant temperature and volts. The Information Screen can give you readouts about almost anything to do with your drive. All buttons, switches and dials are within easy reach and fully illuminated for safe nighttime driving.

Add to the mix the industry’s only ‘head’s-up’ display featuring 3-different types of displays-regular, street and track, where you can view your speed, rpm’s, scroll through fuel, oil pressure and engine coolant temperature, all without taking your eye’s off the road enhancing your precision and safety. The interior is truly unique and world class.

The Z06 Corvette is instantly recognizable thanks to its sleek and sexy styling highlighted with a wide front fascia with large front-facing grille opening, air intakes to the front brakes, fog lamps at the sides, a splitter along the bottom, and wheel opening extensions along the side to provide aerodynamic downforce. A cold air scoop in front of the hood integrates an air inlet system to feed air directly into the engine MAS.

Integrated HID headlamp cluster behind clear lenses help with aerodynamics and light up the way at night. The trailing edge of the front carbon fiber wheel opening is radiused to achieve improved drag, and protects the body finish with a tough molding. Large air extractors are located behind each front wheel and they fly the Z06 badge. The fixed roof body style optimizes body rigidity and mass and the wider carbon fiber rear fenders with flares cover the massive rear wheels and tires. Each rear carbon fiber rear fender contains a brake cooling scoop in front of the wheel, visually balancing the fender extractors.
The rear features a tall spoiler on top of the trunk lid,, four large oval brake and taillights, four, and 4-polished stainless steel, 3in. round exhaust tips set inside the rear diffuser that helps manage airflow out the rear.

Hands down, there aren’t many sports cars that can beat the 2008 Z06 Corvette now in any category.

Creature comforts abound in the new 2008 Z06 Corvette including dual climate control and heated seats, power express windows/door locks, dual map lights, custom floor mats, the latest Bose Audio Surround Audio System with XM satellite radio, seven speakers, and the newest GM Navigation System. Don’t forget that the trunk is the largest in the sports car class enabling you to take long weekend trips.

What more could you want for under $80,000.00?

World-class power and performance comes from the race-bred, 7.0 liter OHV all-aluminum V8 engine. The dry sump oil lubrication system easily handles the extra
g-loads that you can encounter during spirited driving times.

This magnificent V8 engine is mated to a strengthened Tremec, smooth shifting, short-throw, 6-speed, manual transmission that delivers world-class acceleration, power and speed, yet gives back an incredible 15mpg/city and 24mpg/highway, exceeding any other world-class sports car.

The track ready fully independent, double-wishbone suspension goes where you point the Z06 to go with ease, can handle up to 1.2g’s of lateral acceleration when cornering, yet the suspension is tuned for everyday driving and is never harsh.

Further enhancing the great feel and control of the new Z06 is the unique, world-class aluminum body structure for optimum stiffness and light weight for the fixed-roof bodystyle. Perimeter rails are one-piece hydroformed aluminum members featuring cast suspension nodes, which replace many welded steel components on other Corvette models. Other castings, stampings and extrusions are combined into the innovative structure with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies. Advanced structural composites featuring carbon fiber are bonded to the aluminum structure. The wider front wheelhouses, for example, are carbon fiber composites and the passenger compartment floors combine carbon fiber skins with an ultra-lightweight balsa wood core.

The Z06 has a new magnesium cradle that serves as the attachment point for the engine and some front suspension components. Magnesium is lighter than aluminum yet incredibly strong. Taken together, the mass reductions are offset by several added performance enablers, including the dry-sump lubrication system, exhaust system with outlet valves, larger wheels and tires, larger brakes and larger roll stabilizers.

The Z06 rides on giant 18X9.5in. cast-spun aluminum wheels are wrapped with sticky Goodyear Eagle 275/35ZR18in. F1 Supercar extended mobility tires up front, and 19X12in. cast-spun aluminum wheels wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar Extended Mobility tires. These amazing low-profile tires enhance grip and gives
a very compliant ride over rough road surfaces.

Quickly and safely slowing the Z06 down from speed are huge brakes, 14in. slotted & vented discs clamped with 6-piston calipers up front, and 13.8in. slotted and vented rotors clamped with 4-piston calipers in the rear. Standard ABS, Traction & Stability Control help keep you on your chosen path, and when you want to hang the rear out you can shut off the Traction & Active Handling System by simply pushing a console mounted button.

The Z06 Corvette is so fun and simple to drive that sometimes you forget that it is also one of the highest performing vehicles on any road.

What even further sets the new 2008 Z06 Corvette apart from competition that starts over $150,000.00 is the very reasonable price, starting at $70,175.00, and $79,595.00 fully loaded. Wow! That’s a bargain in today’s supercar world.

The all-new 2008 Chevy Malibu is a pleasure to drive as GM has again produced another great car to compete against the best in the mid-size segment.

The all-new Malibu is a fine example of GM putting its energies into building quality products that consumers will want to own and drive for their everyday needs. The all-new 2008 Malibu rewrites Chevrolet’s mid-size car strategy by offering a stylish, uncompromising package that stacks up again the most popular competitors. The Malibu delivers great performance, fuel economy and refinement, wrapped in a clean, tailored design that carries the global face of Chevrolet.

The all-new Malibu is based on GM’s global mid-size platform, which serves as the foundation for a strong body structure, precise build quality and refined driving dynamics. It is more than 3in. longer that last year’s model, and has a 6in. longer wheelbase. These new proportions create a wheels-at-the-corners stance that enables a smoother, more direct driving experience.

Malibu is offered in three well-equipped trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ-all with standard head-curtain side airbags and front-seat thorax airbags, OnStar Gen 7 with remote diagnostics, and XM satellite radio. StabiliTrak stability control is standard on LT and LTZ models.

Performance comes from a family of powerful DOHC four-and six-cylinder engines including a 169hp 2.4 liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed automatic that gives back an impressive 22 mpg/city and 30mpg/highway, a 2.4 liter Ecotec, two-mode hybrid four-cylinder that gives an extra 10% better fuel economy, and a 252hp,
3.6 liter V6 engine with VVT that is mated to a smooth shifting six-speed automatic delivering 17mpg/city and 26mpg/highway. Malibu offers what you want to fit into your driving style, needs, whether be it economy or performance.

With its strong stance and bold proportions, the 2008 Malibu has a profile that reinforces its substantial feel. Clean, pure lines and wheels pushed to the corners, as well as a visually lower, yet longer, greenhouse and a shorter deck suggest motion, agility and attitude. The body sides are clean and elegant, interrupted only by distinctive, wheel-oriented forms that communicate an aggressive, stable stance, and a rear profile with Corvette cues that connects to Chevy’s rich performance heritage.

The Malibu’s grille is characteristic of the new global face of Chevrolet cars and the twin, round taillamps are Chevrolet cues, as well. The hood is now a lid that pops open to allow easy checking of important fluids. LTZ models are distinguished by front fog lamps and clear-lens LED-lit taillamps.

The design elements are complemented with precise details, including minimized body panel gaps, a tight wheel-to-body relationship and select use of chrome trim. V6 models are outfitted with dual, chrome exhaust tips.

The interior’s attention to detail matches the Malibu’s exterior, with an ergonomic design using premium materials that convey quality and value. The integrated, flowing instrument panel features a Chevrolet-signature dual-cockpit design, with prominent gauges backlit in blue, soft-touch material all-around and metallic or wood grain accents. The spacious cabin is very comfortable to sit in, whether for just a short drive to run an errand, or during a longer weekend drive.

The new Malibu has greater storage too, with thoughtful features that maximize utility, including a deep, dual-tiered, center console with a sliding soft cover that opens to accommodate larger items. The comfortable rear bench seat also features 60/40 fold-down backs to enlarge the already generous trunk. Also standard is an auxiliary in-dash storage compartment on the instrument panel shelf for sunglasses, CDs, and other items. An optional rear power center provides a household-style 110-volt AC power outlet.
Malibu’s strong structure serves as a foundation for an exceptionally quiet cabin. Along with the robust chassis, which minimizes vibration and noise, the body construction uses noise-reducing materials, such as liquid spray-on sound deadener, laminated ‘quiet glass’
laminated steel and composite wheel liners to deliver the segment’s quietest, most refined driving experiences.

For the first time, Malibu is offered with two-tone trim combinations, including Ebony and Brick and Cocoa and Cashmere. There is also an all-Ebony combination, accented with a distinctive wood grain element that offers a unique, upscale appearance.

Ambient lighting in areas such as the overhead console and door-pull pockets enhances the Malibu’s inviting feel. The overhead console-mounted LED floodlights provide subdued lighting to the center console area between the front seats. Malibu comes standard with XM satellite radio and a host of upgrades. The up-level interior is a welcome sight for today’s budget-minded consumers.

Malibu’s long, 112.3in. wheelbase and wheels-at-the corner stance enables precise, responsive ride and handling characteristics, providing a trait that’s rare to the segment: driving satisfaction. The balanced, four-wheel independent suspension system features a MacPherson strut front design, and a multilink rear suspension design. The front uses L-shaped aluminum control arms which reduce unsprung mass impacts over bumps for a smoother ride. A hollow front, direct-acting stabilizer bar and dual-rate mini-block coil springs provides a more immediate feel to steering inputs. The rear suspension also features a solid direct-acting stabilizer bar, dual-rate, mini-block coil springs, as well as monotube shocks on V6 equipped models, and twin-tube shocks on 4-cylinder models.
The front and rear systems are tuned for each powertrain combination, delivering tailored driving characteristics for all models. Hydraulic ride bushings and body control damping measures enhance the connected-to-the-road driving feel while supporting a comfortable ride.

Quickly and safely slowing the Malibu down are larger brakes than last year. Up front are 11.65in. vented discs clamped with dual-piston calipers, while the rear solid brake rotors measure 10.87in. and are clamped with single-piston calipers.
GM’s StabiliTrak stability control system is standard on the LT and LTZ models. It uses sophisticated vehicle sensors tied to the ABS to help you maintain control during certain maneuvers. The new panic brake assistance feature provides full braking power when a panic-braking event is detected. This can reduce the braking distance, providing more control in helping to avoid a crash.

Steering response is precise and immediate, thanks to tuned steering systems designed for each model. Malibu models equipped with the 2.4 liter engine use a variable electric power-assist rack & pinion system while V6 models employ a hydraulic-assisted rack & pinion steering system.

A family of wheel and tires combinations are offered with Malibu, all tailored with tight wheel-to-body relationships. LS models come 16X6in. wheels, LT comes with 17X7in. aluminum wheels, and LTZ models come with 18X8in. aluminum wheels.

The suspension systems are mounted to a robust chassis and integrated body structure that features a safety cage design and strategic placement of high-strength steel for outstanding structure integrity. The strong chassis and body structure enable more precise mounting of the suspension systems, a design trait that enabled engineers to focus on finer degrees of suspension tuning. A safety cage construction built into the Malibu’s body structure is complemented with reinforced rocker sections, as well as a reinforced front body hinge pillar and roof pillars that were designed to improve impact protection.
A magnesium cross-car beam unites the lower sections of the A-pillars. This further protects passengers in side-impact crashes and serves as a solid foundation for the instrument panel. High-strength steel is used in strategic areas to augment overall structural integrity.

No other mid-size sedan, with a base price of just $19,995.00, that I have tested so far this year, has given me the confidence on the road as the Malibu has, and no other mid-size sedan, with a base price of just $19,995.00, that I have tested so far this year has given me as much comfort and pleasure while driving. Maybe that is why the all-new 2008 Chevy Malibu was named ‘2008 North American Car of the Year’ at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Test drive one and you will agree.

ALL NEW 2008 AUDI R8
‘STREET RACER PAR EXCELANCE’

Audi has incorporated the name and genes of its five-time Le Mans winner, the
R8 prototype race car, into a spectacular, limited production, two seat sports car that is equally at home on the street and the track. It is a fascinating driving machine and the sporty pinnacle of the Audi brand. The mid-mounted 420hp V8 FSI engine, Quattro permanent all-wheel drive, four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension with a sport mode for more aggressive driving, giant 15in. front/14in. slotted vented disc brakes, and Audi’s light and stiff aluminum Space Frame body form the basis for a truly outstanding driving experience.

It is the superb Audi styling that wets the appetite for more and that is only an appetizer on the menu after you sit back behind the steering wheel and fire up the magnificent engine.

Even at first glance, the caliber of the car is plain to see. The R8 sits wide and low on the road, with its strongly accentuated rear end appearing to flex its muscles like a sprinter ready to leave the starting block.

The characteristic proportions of the vehicle are dictated by the location of the engine behind the cockpit, where it’s also found in race cars. This central position of the engine is a boon to the driving dynamics, with a weight distribution of 44% front and 56% rear.
The perfectly sculpted body is highly compact in appearance with the front end and the gently curved roof arc drawn in a sweeping line that immediately marks the two-seater as an Audi.

The low and wide front end is characterized by the trapezoidal styling of the Audi single-frame grille, flanked on the sides by additional large-dimensional air intakes. For the first time the Audi four-ring badge is positioned on the hood, above the grille. The LED running lights, with their clear-glass covers, join flush to the tops of the air intakes.

At 75in. wide but just 174.5in.long, and 49.3 inches high, these are the proportions of a true sports car. The 104.3 inch wheelbase offers you room for the astonishing spacious cabin and the longitudinally-mounted engine behind it. Behind the doors, a large-surface ‘sideblade’ air deflector sweeps between the wheel arch and the roof section, delivering air for the V8 to breathe and to cool. The paint finish of the sideblade is contrasted with the body color, or it can be ordered to match the body color.

The rear is almost as enticing as the front fascia with large air extractor openings illustrating how the R8’s styling is dictated by aerodynamics. Two pairs of circular twin chrome plated exhaust pipes sit above the lower right and left diffusers. Uniquely designed LED brake lights, and a third brake light strip that runs across virtually the full wide of the roof, make all eyes focus on the all-new R8.

The flared fenders are stuffed with 19X9in. front, and 19X11in. alloy wheels wrapped with low-profile, ultra-high-performance tires for enhanced traction and grip.
The rear spoiler deploys automatically at 65mph, or you can push a console mounted button to raise or lower it at slower speeds. It provides additional downforce to boost the suction effect produced by the aerodynamic styling of the underbody and by the diffusers.
The cabin is pushed far forward-typical of a mid-engine sports car-and a visual cue of the R8 race car. Behind the cabin, positioned in front of the rear axle, is the V8 FSI engine, a sculpted piece of engineering visible both through the large, shield-shaped rear window and from the inside.

The sporty and luxurious cabin is dominated by a driver-oriented cockpit architecture called ‘Monoposto’ that positions you between the dashboard and the high center console. The instrument cluster above the console is angled slightly towards you and features a large 220mph speedometer, 9,000rpm tachometer, surrounded by smaller oil pressure, volts, engine coolant temperature and fuel gauges. The leather wrapped steering wheel is flat-bottomed that is typical of Audi’s sportiest models, and it also enables comfortable sports car entry and exit. With a tilt and telescoping column you get the perfect reach and angle for precise steering. You have a choice between the standard, smooth shifting 6-speed manual with a terrific shift gate, and the R-tronic 6-speed sequential automatic with paddle shifters. Either one is fun and easy to use and helps blast the R8 to 60mph from a standstill in just 4.4sec., and a top speed of 187mph.

At high speeds on the straights or during hard cornering, you’ll really appreciate the custom, leather sport bucket seats that are deeply cut to keep you firmly in place as you pilot the R8.

The styling and placement of all dials, switches and levers are perfect in this driving machine mimic of the R8 race car. They are all focused on the essentials that make the driver the center point. There is plenty of room for two with comfort levels well beyond the norm of ultra-high-performance sports cars. There is space behind the seats to stow large bags, or even two golf bags. The luggage compartment up front has a capacity of 3.5cu.ft.

Standard equipment includes heated, 10-way powered bucket seats, aluminum pedals, dials, automatic climate control, power express windows and door locks, aluminum fuel filler door, Driver Information system with on-board computer, ABS brakes, electronic stability program, a 7-speaker, 140-watt sound system, SIRIUS satellite radio, Bi-Xenon headlamps, power-remote side mirrors, electronic cruise control and remote keyless entry.

Options include Audi Parking Assist with TV camera, self-dimming rearview mirror, Audi Navigation System, and a 6-CD changer.

Audi has taken what it has learned on the track with the championship winning R8 and successfully transferred that experience to the street with superb styling and an ultra-high-performing machine under the skin that doesn’t lack for any interior comforts or amenities.

After successfully launching the all-new CL550 personal luxury coupe in 2007, Mercedes-Benz follows that gem up in 2008 with a more powerful and luxurious CL63 AMG limited-edition model. What’s new from AMG lies under the hood, inside the cabin and its unique design.

The CL63 AMG features a hand-assembled, 6.3 liter, V8 that produces 518hp and 465lb.ft. of torque, making it the most powerful normally aspirated production V8 on the market. Designed exclusively by AMG, this engine shares no parts with other Mercedes-Benz V8 engines.

This super powerful, smooth and quiet engine is mated to a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT Driver-Adaptive automatic transmission with steering wheel shift paddles. The transmission quickly adapts and learns your driving style, giving quick, imperceptible shifts up and down. The aluminum paddle shifter enables you to run the engine up to redline when you want to quicken your pulse and experience true super-car exhilaration.

The very stiff and torsional steel unit body features aluminum front fenders, doors, hood and a composite trunk lid. The reinforced chassis totally eliminates any noise, vibration or harshness and gives such a pleasurable drive whether you are just doing your everyday errands, when taking off for a long weekend, or during a spectacular weekend at the track with other AMG Club Members.

The CL63 AMG suspension and brake systems are world-class and designed for high-performance driving. AMG makes good use of the Mercedes-Benz ABC active suspension system and tuned it for even flatter cornering and less body movement when accelerating and braking. The Sport-Comfort-Manual button on the center console allows you to choose between the three different transmission shift programs that also fine-tune accelerator pedal response and sport-suspension spring and shock absorber settings.

The race-bred fully independent suspension features automatic four-wheel level control, adjustable ride height and automatic lowering. The Mercedes-Benz Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control help you maintain control on slick or wet pavement, plus you’ll never know that the systems are working.

The CL63 AMG blasts out to 60mph from a standstill in just 4.4sec. with a 186mph top speed. True super-car numbers.

The world-class AMG twin sliding brake calipers up front combine the performance of large fixed calipers with the distinct advantages of floating calipers-lower heat transfer to the brake fluid and better ride comfort. Up front are massive 15.4in. vented/cross-drilled composite rotors, and in the rear are 14.4in. vented/cross-drilled composite rotors. The CL63 AMG stops in just 116ft. from 60mph. Standard ABS, Brake Assist, and Mercedes-Benz’s PRE-SAFE braking system helps you maintain control during severe maneuvers.

The flared front fenders are stuffed with stunning AMG designed, cast aluminum wheels, 20X8.5in. up front, and 20X9.5in. wheels in the rear. These stunning ten-spoke wheels are wrapped with super-high-performance tires for excellent traction, grip, and ride comfort.

The second layer of the CL63 AMG is the bold and elegant styling. AMG cues start with a muscular front bumper, unique lamp clusters under clear lenses, large lower air intake, smaller air intakes at the sides to cool the front brakes, and round fog lights, all ringed in chrome. The front fenders are adorned with 6.3 AMG badges. Beautifully contoured side skirts carry the aggressive lines of the front bumper to the rear. The sleek greenhouse is wrapped in chrome and features no B-pillars to impede the flowing lines. The AMG rear apron emphasizes the wide stance of the car, while a lip spoiler atop the trunk lid helps with down-force. Large, twin chrome-tipped oval tailpipes are located at each end of the diffuser and give a mighty roar when you stamp on the throttle.

The third layer is inside when you open the doors and are greeted by an AMG inspired interior that is spectacular, combining super-car driving cues, old-world German craftsmanship, and the latest ultra-luxury and ultra-high-tech automotive features.

Step over the aluminum AMG door plates and sit back in the AMG multi-contour leather sport bucket seats. These superbly comfortable seats are finished in special piping and are fully adjustable. They also feature an ‘Active Setting’ where the side bolsters inflate and deflate depending on the lateral G-forces that you encounter during hard cornering and spirited driving.

You are completely surrounded with the finest, German hand-cut and sewn leather. The A-pillars and headliner are covered in soft Alcantara leather. You have a choice of several hand-rubbed exotic woods for trimming the center stack and doors.

All buttons, switches, dials and foot pedals are trimmed with real aluminum and chrome. The AMG signature instrument cluster is easy to see with its large 200mph speedometer and 8,000rpm tachometer. The beefy, AMG leather-wrapped, sport steering wheel, with distinctive aluminum shift paddles, feels great, and the power tilt/telescopic feature gave me the perfect angle and reach.

Completing the interior is an exclusive analog clock based on the design of the IWC ‘Ingenieur’ watch. I’d love to have it around my wrist.

Standard equipment includes COMMAND System with AM/FM/WB radio; SIRIUS satellite radio; dual-zone electronic climate control; GPS Navigation system with
